FSU football climbed to No. 2 in the nation last week. An embarassing loss to No. 10 Louisville sends ‘Noles in free fall in latest edition.

The Saturday slate of games some a lot of teams climbing in the rankings. However, the FSU football team was not one of them.

The ‘Noles tied with Oklahoma for largest drop in the polls, both teams dropping 11 spots from their previous position. Of course, Louisville took FSU to the woodshed to the tune of 63-20, and Oklahoma got smoked by Ohio State 45-24.

The Cardinals jumped up seven spots to claim No. 4 spot with their big win.

What were the biggest takeaways from the newest Top 25 polls this week, and what does it mean for the coming week? Here’s the three things we found most important from the newest rankings.

No. 1

How in the world are Wisconsin and Georgia ranked No. 11 and No. 12? That’s an absolute joke. Wisconsin almost lost to Georgia State, and Georgia had to score a touchdown in the last-minute and a half to avoid an upset loss to Missouri.

Miami is ranked No. 15 after beating three scrub teams? Appalachian St. was/is overrated from their game against Tennessee who themselves should have never been ranked No. 9 preseason.

That’s the reason I picked Miami to cover the four point spread on the road. They did so easily, winning by 35 points. But Miami jumping 10 spots in the polls for beating Appalachian State?

Yea, OK.

Louisville got six first place votes after beating FSU football. I have to give them credit, they unstoppable on Saturday. Are they THAT good, or did FSU just crap the bed?

Probably a little of both.

ACC Still Holding Strong

The ACC still have two teams in the top 10 with Louisville at No. 3 and Clemson at No. 5. Those two teams will square off in two weeks.

The winner of that game likely wins the ACC Atlantic and the ACC Championship.

The ACC has four teams in the top 15 in the country.

FSU coming in at No. 13 and Miami at No. 15.

UNC, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech were in the also receiving votes category. UNC will host Pittsburgh next week with Georgia Tech hosting No. 5 Clemson on Thursday night.

Virginia Tech will host the ECU Pirates in their next matchup. UNC and Georgia would more than likely be ranked should win their games next week.

‘Noles Still Have a Shot

I’m sure most FSU football fans watched that debacle on Saturday and left feeling like the season was over with several tough games remaining.

It’s true the slate is still tough, however, the ‘Noles still have a shot at making some noise if things fall just right.

Obviously, they need to win out, and that means beating Clemson. However, the ‘Noles need Clemson to beat Louisville in two weeks.

If Clemson beats Louisville, that would put the Tigers at No. 2 or No. 3 in the nation. It’s possible for FSU to beat ranked top 10 again by then if they beat USF and UNC in their next two games.

If FSU beats Clemson, would the committee put the ‘Noles back in the mix for a college football playoff spot?

Anything is possible, so don’t give up on the ‘Noles just yet.
