Family of LSU commit wants him to attend school elsewhere

2016 athlete Erick Fowler is one of the more versatile defensive prospects in the entire class.

At 6'3", 235 pounds, the Texas native functions as a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker. Possessing the traits necessary to play both positions, Fowler's future does look very bright.

He's been committed to LSU since last June. However, there appears to be a real chance that this commitment won't last until signing day.

Via a report from the Austin American-Statesman, Fowler's family would prefer he opt out of his LSU pledge in favor of signing with Charlie Strong and Texas. While Fowler is sticking with LSU (for now), he will visit Texas officially on Jan. 15.

This can't be a good sign for LSU's chances at ultimately signing Fowler. One would think it'd be difficult for a prospect to go against the wishes of his family -- especially when the competing school is less than a half hour away from Fowler's hometown.
