Drug charges dropped against WR Sales

Felony drug charges against suspended Syracuse wide receiver Marcus Sales have been dropped, but the senior's future with the team remains in doubt.

Sales faced charges of fifth- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of marijuana and violating the city's open container law.

Sales and his brother, Michael Sales Jr., were pulled over in late July for running a red light. Syracuse police found an open container of alcohol, several bags of marijuana, a bag of painkilling pills, and several digital scales.

The charges were dropped after a grand jury did not find enough evidence to charge Sales with drug possession.

Coach Doug Marrone gave no indication after practice Wednesday night whether Sales would return to the team.
