Clemson Football: Weekend news bites

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Here is a nifty little condensed version of all the Clemson Tigers news this week.

USC players’ racial slur (non)story: In case you have been without television or internet service in the last week, there was a bit of a hullabaloo after last week’s Palmetto State showdown. Basically, several South Carolina Gamecock players accused Clemson players of taunting them with racial slurs. The news outlets ran with it,but now it seems as if it was a fabrication. After actually checking with the players who made the accusations, the USC players backtracked quickly and stated that it might have been fans who made the nasty comments. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, in a rare moment of snark, denounced the media outlets that posted the story for being a bunch of irresponsible jackals. You can read his full response here.

Nine Tigers named 1st team All-ACC: Clemson had the most players (15) selected to the 2016 All-ACC Football Team. Nine Tiger players were on the All-ACC first team, including WR Mike Williams, TE Jordan Leggett, and LB Ben Boulware. Coach Swinney also received a mention as runner-up Coach of the Year. The whole list is available here.

Colin Cowherd needs a good smack: I’ll give Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd credit for one thing-he knows how to get attention. Regardless, he is a giant blowhard who needs a good spanking. Here is his take on Clemson’s CFP chances. Jerk.

Ben Boulware featured on Fox Sports South. You can watch the video here.

Deshaun Watson had a monster November. And you can bet the Heisman committee has noticed. Here are just a few of the stats from the last month. Watson has completed over 75% of his passes in the last month alone. He has accrued 1,298 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. He is still very much in the running for the Heisman, but he continues to accrue other honors as well. Watson has been named a finalist for the Manning Award and the Walter Camp Player of the Year.  He was also a finalist for the Davey O’Brien Award and the Unitas Award.
