Chip Kelly jokes 'North Texas State' contacted him to coach, not USC

Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly was adamant Thursday that USC hadn't contacted him about the Trojans' coaching vacancy, adding a fake program as the only one to reach out.

"North Texas State," said Kelly, quickly denying USC rumors. "The Armadillos or whatever."

Kelly said that if reporters kept "asking questions like this" then the news conference would be over earlier than expected. While Kelly acknowledged that the Eagles were "not successful" this year (his team is 2-3), he added that he'd like to avoid this kind of speculation moving forward.

"I hope some day to be like [New York Giants] coach [Tom] Coughlin and win enough games where I can stay around long enough where that speculation ends," said Kelly. "But I understand you have to ask the question."

North Texas Mean Green, of course, actually does need a new coach. The school fired Dan McCarney after losing to FCS program Portland State 66-7 on Saturday.
