Buckeyes reportedly part ways with reserve offensive lineman

Published Jun. 19, 2015 12:46 a.m. ET

According to multiple reports, Ohio State's offensive line ranks shrank by one this week as the athletics department confirmed Marcelys Jones is no longer with the team.

The Buckeyes return four starters up front from last season, and Jones was not in contention for the open spot.

He signed in 2014 as a Scout.com three-star prospect from Cleveland Glenville and was viewed as a bit of a project.

The Columbus Dispatch reported Jones did not report for summer conditioning this week and subsequently informed the staff he would not be rejoining the team.

With five incoming freshmen joining this summer, Ohio State is still set to have 16 offensive linemen on scholarship this fall, including seniors Taylor Decker, Jacoby Boren, Chase Farris and Joel Hale.

His exit and the earlier report another of the incoming freshmen, Mirko Jurkovic Jr., will not be able to enroll because of an academic issue means Ohio State is believed to be at the 85-scholarship player limit as required by the start of training camp.
