Updated Mar. 5, 2020 12:54 a.m. ET

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Arizona State senior safety Jordan Simone, the national leader in tackles per game, is out for the season after injuring his right knee over the weekend.

Simone was injured in the first half of the Sun Devils' 27-17 win over Washington on Saturday and did not return. Arizona State coach Todd Graham announced Monday that Simone will not play again this season.

Linebacker Laiu Moeakiola injured his shoulder on the same play during which Simone went down, but he could play this week against rival Arizona.

Simone entered Saturday's game first nationally with 7.8 solo tackles per game. He also led the Sun Devils with 8.3 solo tackles per game last season.
