Adams leads E. Washington past W. Oregon 43-14
Vernon Adams threw for five touchdowns, four in the first quarter, as Eastern Washington coasted past Western Oregon 43-14 Saturday night.
Adams, who accounted for five touchdowns in an upset of Oregon State last week, completed 18 of 24 passes for 298 yards. He connected with four different receivers in a near-flawless first quarter that saw the Eagles (2-0) open a 29-0 lead over the Division II Wolves (0-1).
Adams added his fifth touchdown, the second to Shaquille Hill, early in the third quarter. Hill had 117 yards on eight catches.
Eastern Washington's defense forced four Western Oregon turnovers and held the Wolves to just 28 yards rushing on 26 attempts.
Ryan Bergman threw two touchdown passes for Western Oregon in the fourth quarter but in-between Eastern got another TD pass from backup Anthony Vitto. Bergman was also picked off twice by Allen Brown.
