5 pricey items you can buy for cost of Chris Davis' 'Kick Six' helmet
We'll always remember the 2013 Iron Bowl, because Auburn's Chris Davis took a missed field goal 109 yards to beat Alabama and propel the Tigers to an SEC title and national championship appearance.
Now, one Auburn alum will always remember that moment because they own the helmet Davis wore during the "Kick Six."
How much did it take to secure this cherished piece of college football history? A whopping $47,190, according to ESPN.com. The helmet was also signed by Davis, who now plays for the San Diego Chargers. From the story:
"We knew when we received this item on consignment it was something special and would be treasured by Auburn fans, alumni and college football collectors," said Goldin Auctions founder Ken Goldin, who confirmed that an Auburn alum was the winner. "This helmet from one of the most historic and notable plays in college football goes down as one of the highest priced pieces of collegiate sports memorabilia ever sold, and certainly the most valuable that has been auctioned from a player or event that occurred within the past 20 years."
How crazy is it to pay $47,190 for a football helmet? Well, consider these five things you could purchase with that same amount of money.
1) A Mercedes-Benz SLK Class Roadster convertible (with money to spare!).
2) A two-bedroom flat in Cape Town, South Africa.
3) More than 13,500 boxes of Little Debbies Oatmeal Creme Pies (you're right, why would an Auburn fan ever want to do that?)
4) 124 bottles of 1998 Dom Perignon P2 champagne.
5) Eight of the most expensive tickets available for the 2014 Iron Bowl (currently priced at $5,855.25 per seat).
That IS a pretty sweet helmet, though.
