3 Things I Want to See from Ohio State vs Nebraska

Could these things get Ohio State back on track?

Ohio State has arguably the most talented team in the country. The possibilities of what they can do both offensively and defensively are endless. With a coach like Urban Meyer, by the end of a season he will usually have his squad close to full potential.

There is little doubt in my mind that this season will be any different. Here are some of the things that I want to see the Buckeyes do vs Nebraska and for the final stretch of the season.

Constant pressure.

First of all, I want to say that NICK BOSA NEEDS TO BE ON THE FIELD MORE. How is this guy not starting yet? It seems like every play that he’s in, he is disrupting the backfield in one way or another.

With Bosa and Hubbard on the ends, that just spells disaster for the opposing offense. Nebraska’s O-Line is not exactly in good shape, so we need to take advantage.

It’s important to blitz early and often. Getting to the quarterback is always important, but it is extra important against the Cornhuskers.

Tommy Armstrong Jr is a ‘do-it-all’ type QB. He’s going to try to extend and make plays that might not be there. If Ohio State can get to him, he’ll be forced to make quick decisions and will likely throw into coverage, resulting very positively for the Ohio State secondary.

Pound The Rock

Mike Weber is legit. And it’s clear that Ohio State does not have an offensive identity yet. So wouldn’t it be smart to shape the offense around a guy that is going to be around for a while?

Weber is a freshman, but he runs like a senior. The Detroit, *ichigan product has rushed for 770 yards and 6 TD’s this season. Weber is averaging 6.0 yards per carry and is only getting better.

Mike Weber is only averaging 16 carries per game. Personally, I’d like to see him get at least 5-7 more per game. Not only is it solid yardage, but a strong running game opens everything up.

Including the other RB, Curtis Samuel – who is more of a slot guy. If we can get defenses to focus on Mike Weber, defenses won’t be able to focus on trying to slow down Heisman caliber quarterback JT Barrett.

And my last reason will make Urban Meyer happy. If a defense has to respect the fact that OSU can pound the ball up the middle with Weber, the QB read option will be golden.

Take some Deep Shots

More from Scarlet and Game

This is something that I have been stressing since the Indiana game. Why is JT Barrett not going deep? I know he can throw a decent deep ball, and we have plenty of wide receivers that can handle it. So where is the deep ball?

If the Buckeyes start to run the ball more, like I said in the last slide, then this will be an obvious one. Defenses will try to load the box and that’s when JT goes right over top of them for a big gain.

Even if the pass ends up incomplete, it’s still productive. The defense will have to soften up and scoot back next time they see that formation – and that’s when you run Weber up the gut.

I have no doubt that Urban Meyer will whip this team into shape, whether he does these 3 things, or goes down a different path – I don’t care. Urban Meyer knows a lot more about football than I do so I’ll fully trust whatever decision he makes.

But from speculation, these are 3 things that I want to see from the 2016 Buckeyes football team in the coming weeks and especially against Nebraska.
