Western Michigan turns back Jacksonville 76-72

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) Tucker Haymond scored 24 points and Drake LaMont came up big in his first start, leading Western Michigan to a 76-72 win over Jacksonville on Saturday.

LaMont, a sophomore, made 6 of 8 from the field and 9 of 10 from the line - including a pair with 3 seconds left - for 21 points. He grabbed seven rebounds, had four assists and two blocks for the Broncos (6-7). Thomas Wilder added 18 points and Anthony Avery Jr., had a career-high 14 rebounds as Western Michigan won the boards 39-27.

Kori Babineaux had 24 points, Josh Adeyeye scored 16 and Marcel White added 14 for the Dolphins (7-9) in a game that had 11 ties and 12 lead changes.

Western Michigan made 22 of 27 free throws - 14 of 17 in the second half - and hit 5 of 6 after Jacksonville took its last lead on Adeyeye's jumper with 2:31 to play. The Dolphins were 7 of 9 for the game.
