Southern defeats North Carolina Central 68-63 in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) Adrian Rodgers scored 18 points and Southern defeated North Carolina Central 68-63 on Monday at the Global Sports Classic.

Southern (8-4) will play Omaha in the championship game of the Visitors' Bracket while NC Central will play Eastern Illinois for third place.

Jared Sam added 15 points, Shawn Prudhomme 12 and Trelun Banks 10 for the Jaguars (8-4), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Patrick Cole scored 19 points and Dante Holmes and Jeremiah Ingram had 12 each for the Eagles (3-8), who have lost four consecutive games.

Southern led 58-53 with 1:26 left when Sam made a pair of free throws and a jumper and Rodgers hit one free throw for a 10-point lead.

Cole got the Eagles within 64-58 with a layup then a 3-pointer with 15.6 remaining but Rodgers and Prudhomme made two free throws each to ensure the win.
