Rideau makes late FTs, USF beats Austin Peay 74-70 in OT

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — LaQuincy Rideau made two free throws with 2.7 seconds left in overtime and scored 17 points, helping South Florida beat Austin Peay 74-70 on Monday night.

Down 72-67, Austin Peay guard Zach Glotta was fouled on a 3-pointer and made all three free throws with 11.8 left. Austin Peay was called for an intentional foul, and David Collins missed both free throws, but USF kept possession and Rideau sealed it at the line.

At the end of regulation, Austin Peay's Jarrett Givens rattled in a 3-pointer from the wing for a 63-61 lead with 7.3 seconds left. Rideau had his driving layup blocked by Terry Taylor, but Justin Brown was fouled on an offensive rebound with 0.4 seconds left and made both free throws to force overtime.

Collins and T.J. Lang each scored 15 points for South Florida (2-0). Rideau was just 4 of 10 from the line and USF missed 20 free-throw attempts.

Taylor had 21 points and 12 rebounds for Austin Peay (1-2), which shot just 32.7 percent from the field.
