Report: Purdue freshman waiting to be cleared by NCAA

Published Oct. 26, 2015 8:11 p.m. ET

Add one more big man to the list of highly-touted freshmen waiting to be cleared by the NCAA.

On Monday night, Bleacher Report's Jason King reported that Purdue's Caleb Swanigan has not been cleared to play yet.

Swanigan becomes the latest heralded recruit to wait for a ruling. On Friday, Kentucky's Skal Labissiere reportedly got the OK from the NCAA. Kansas forward Cheick Diallo is still awaiting a decision despite enrolling in classes this summer and earning six credits.

King published a lengthy feature story on the 6-foot-9 Swanigan last week, detailing his road from homeless to McDonald's All-American. According to King, the investigation centers around Swanigan and his adopted father, Roosevelt Barnes, a sports agent in Indiana.

Swanigan, a consensus five-star recruit, initially committed to Michigan State before switching his pledge to Purdue. The addition of Swanigan gave the Boilermakers one of the best frontlines in the country with A.J. Hammons and Isaac Haas returning.

Purdue opens the season on Nov. 13 against North Carolina A&T.
