Recruiting: 2017 point guard cuts list down to five schools
Five schools will be recruiting and battling for the services of 2017 point guard Quade Green.
One of the elite point guards in the class of 2017 is getting closer to making a decision on where he will play his college basketball.
Five-star lead guard Quade Green cut his list to five schools, Duke, Kentucky, Syracuse, Temple and Villanova, on Sunday night.

The 6’1″, 170 pound Philadelphia native is ranked as the 22nd best player in ESPN’s top 100 for the class of 2017. He is labeled as the third best point guard (behind Trevon Duval and Trae Young) and is the second best player in the state of Pennsylvania.
Green broke out this spring and summer on the Nike EYBL Circuit, where he made All-EYBL First Team and led all players in assists (10.5 per game). He scored 14.1 points, grabbed 2.8 rebounds and even snatched 2.9 steals per game. He helped lead the PSA Cardinals to the Peach Jam final before being defeated by Michael Porter Jr., Young and MoKan Elite in the championship game.
The St. John Neumann High School prospect has molded into a true point guard, who rarely turns the ball over, makes the proper decisions and doesn’t get sped up by his opponents. He’s not the quickest, fastest or most athletic point guard in the class, but he understands how to use angles and change speeds successfully.
Green is unselfish with the basketball in his hands, knifing into the lane at different times to look for teammates instead of his own shot. He isn’t a great shooter from the perimeter, but he is certainly capable of making outside jumpers, so the defense does have to respect his ability.
The point guard also never gets rattled. He keeps his poise under pressure, showing off good vision and ball handling skills.
Although he’s not a one-and-done type of talent (none of the point guards in the 2017 class are with the exception of Duval), he is a nice program player, who could be in college for two-to-three, even four, years
Green has two hometown schools (Temple and Villanova) in his final five, along with two major blue bloods in Duke and Kentucky.
Interestingly enough, Duval didn’t have the Duke and Kentucky in his final nine before reopening his recruitment. The top point guard in the class has been in contact with the Blue Devils as of late, but there has been no word as to if Kentucky has reached out.
With Green not facing eligibility concerns, the Wildcats seem to be more focused on the Philly native and Young even though Duval is a much better talent.
Regardless, it seems like Syracuse is the favorite at this point for Green. He has visited the school multiple times and the Orange are making him a top priority in the class of 2017.
“They love him,” (St. John Neumann) Goretti coach Carl Arrigale said of Syracuse. “They have been on him for two years. They were on him before he blew up. So it’s kind of always a review of sorts when they are together.”
Green hasn’t announced when he will make his decision. He may want to see what players like De’Aaron Fox, Isaiah Briscoe and Frank Jackson do at their respective schools, while continuing to get a feel for the Orange.
Also, don’t count out Villanova, who is a hometown college that is relevant on a national scale (of course, they just won the national championship).
Green is one of the most intriguing players in the class of 2017. His commitment will make major waves, especially for a team like the Orange that will be searching for their point guard of the future moving forward.
