Maryland Madness usually includes a music/magic show, preceded by the basketball introductions that everyone cares about. The men’s and women’s teams split up and run a light scrimmage, giving fans an insight to each team’s roster.
Mark Turgeon has had a much quieter offseason than last year.
This year’s team enters with lower expectations compared to last year’s top-three team. Maryland adds five freshman, including local star Anthony Cowan, to a very thinned out roster after the departures of Jake Layman, Diamond Stone, Rasheed Sulaimon, and Robert Carter Jr.
The team also returns shooting guard Dion Wiley from a season-long injury redshirt, and he is looking to show his improvements from rehab.
While the frontcourt may lack the firepower, the backcourt is going to be extremely athletic.
Brenda Frese and the Women’s Basketball team, however are looking to comeback after a disappointing tournament run knocked them out before the Sweet 16.
Frese is adding the number one freshman class in the country, to a roster that returns sharpshooter Kristen Confroy, superstar Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, and the dominant Brionna Jones.
Both teams come in with high expectations and fans are looking to see how each team has improved after rather disappointing years last season.
