Long Beach State beats Western Michigan 73-55

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) Mike Caffey scored 18 points and keyed a second-half run to lead Long Beach State over Western Michigan 73-55 on Thursday night in the Wooden Legacy.
The 49ers (3-3) trailed by five with 8 minutes left when they went on a 16-0 run that included five consecutive free throws and Caffey's rally-capping 3-pointer. After a pair of free throws by Western Michigan's Connor Tava, the 49ers finished on a 11-2 run.
Tyler Lamb added 14 points for the 49ers.
Austin Richie led Western Michigan (3-2) with 13 points.
The 49ers came in shooting 50 percent and Western Michigan 54.5. That wasn't the case Thursday - the 49ers finished at 46.9 and the Broncos 30.5. The Broncos were 3 of 24 on 3-pointers for 12.5 percent. They had been averaging 46.7.
Friday, the 49ers play Washington with the Broncos facing San Jose State.
