HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) Shakir Brown had 11 points and 10 rebounds and James Madison overcame shaky late free throw shooting to beat Florida International 64-61 on Friday.

Brown's jumper with 39 seconds left put the Dukes (2-1) up 61-56, but he failed to convert the 3-point play. Daviyon Draper answered with two free throws for the Golden Panthers (2-1). Winston Grays III missed two foul shots for James Madison, but Brown grabbed the offensive rebound and made two free throws at 24 seconds.

After a FIU basket, Brown made one of two foul shots. After a Golden Panthers free throw, Tom Vodanovich missed two. That gave FIU a last chance, but Donte McGill missed a 3-pointer with time running out.

Ron Curry had 12 points and Vodanovich 10 for James Madison, which went 14 of 25 from the line.
