Hofstra pulls away in 2nd half, beats Canisius 96-85

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) Brian Bernardi made a school single-game record eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 26 points to help Hofstra beat Canisius 96-85 on Friday night in a season opener for both teams.

Malcolm McMillan hit a 3-pointer with 2:39 remaining to give Canisius an 83-82 lead. But Juan'ya Green scored 9 points during Hofstra's 14-2 run to close the game.

The Pride trailed by 11 with nine minutes remaining.

Green finished with 16 points and had 11 assists for Hofstra. Rokas Gustys added 13 points with 10 rebounds.

Bernardi was 8 of 12 from the field and his record-breaking 3 came with 52 seconds left to give the Pride a 9-point lead.

McMillan was 13-of-20 shooting and scored 33 points for Canisius. He had 22 points in the first half as Canisius held a 47-45 lead.
