George Washington slips past Fordham 70-67

NEW YORK (AP) Maurice Creek scored 24 points and forced two huge turnovers in the final minutes, giving George Washington a narrow 70-67 victory over Fordham.

George Washington (23-7, 11-5), looking to improves it's standing in a large pack vying for second and third place in the Atlantic 10 conference, led cellar-dwelling Fordham 31-29 at intermission.

The Rams kept George Washington on its toes in the second period as Fordham (9-20, 2-14) took the lead 41-40 with 14:34 remaining. That lead held, thanks to a big second-half scoring effort by Branden Frazier, until the Colonials went up 65-61 with 3:07 to play following two consecutive Creek steals, both resulting in Patricio Garino layups. The Colonials hung on in the final seconds, making 3-of-4 foul shots.

Garino added 18 points and Isaiah Armwood scored 16 for the Colonials.

Frazier led the Ram attack with 28 points. Fordham made only 3-of-24 3-point attempts.
