Young gun George Groves puts his British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles on the line when he accepts the challenge of Kenny Anderson at the Wembley Arena in London on March 16.
The fight will attract a fair amount of attention in the UK as a reprise of their first fight in 2010 when Groves out-muscled the Scot after six thrilling rounds, but not before Anderson had dropped the highly-touted Englishman in the third.
In that first encounter Groves had looked open and disorganized on several occasions in the fight, but showed admirable grit and determination to gradually overpower Anderson and force the stoppage. On the other hand, Anderson has always insisted that he took the bout at short notice and was under-cooked, adding that with proper preparation he’d have put his man away early in the fight when he had Groves in considerable trouble.
Anderson gets a chance to prove his point March 16th. Since their first fight, Groves, 14-0, 11 KO’s, won his title with a high-profile points defeat of arch rival James Degale and defended with an early stoppage of stubborn Paul Smith, while Anderson, 15-1, 11 KO’s, has reeled off three inside distance wins against journeymen. Tough as the Scotsman is, I expect Groves to confirm that he’s a real talent and have the fight over with by the fifth round.
