Joins Burnley Weghorst joined Burnley from Wolfsburg on a three-and-a-half-year deal, his new club announced Monday.
Impact Weghorst is as close a style comparison to former-Claret Chris Wood, so this move makes plenty of sense for all involved. What could be concerning is that Weghorst has only scored six times in 18 appearances this season after scoring 20 goals in 34 matches in the previous campaign. However, Wood never scored more than 14 goals in any of the past four full league seasons while Weghorst never scored fewer than 16 during that time. As he departs Germany there's a big hole to fill at his previous club, as Lukas Nmecha (ankle) is out for months and no other striker has provided similar contributions for a low-scoring club. At his new destination, Weghorst may need some time to settle in but should have few problems becoming the top option at striker.
