Will Cleary - Soccer News, Rumors, & Updates | FOX Sports

Sidelined by illness Cleary is listed as out for the upcoming trip to Portland due to illness.

Impact Cleary, a 23-year-old rookie, has been in and out of the lineup at right-back and scored his lone goal of the season in August. He was still far from locked into the first-choice job, with veteran Nathan Byrne the established option. Charlotte is also working around several absences such as Brandt Bronico (lower body) and Archie Goodwin (lower body), so Cleary's unavailability stretches an already thin group. Assuming he recovers from the illness, the defender should be ready to see action again after the match against Portland.

Scores first season goal Cleary scored a goal off his lone shot and made one clearance during Saturday's 3-1 win over D.C. United.

Impact Cleary was a non-factor from a fantasy perspective until the 66th minute, with an almost empty stat sheet, and then everything changed when he headed home a corner kick from the right to give Charlotte their first lead of the game. This was the first goal of the season for the right-back, who started in the last two matches but is still far from being consolidated as the first choice. As goals are not expected from him every game, he'll need to rack up more peripheral numbers to deserve any serious fantasy consideration.
