Knee requires surgery Mings sustained a "significant knee injury" in Saturday's opener and will be out months after he undergoes surgery.

Impact This was thought to be the case for Mings and it's unfortunately the second knee surgery required from a regular starter for Villa the first week of the season. While they had decent depth entering the campaign, that's already diminishing, as Pau Torres and Diego Carlos will get chances for more time without Mings on the back line. Mings had started at least 33 matches each of the last four seasons for Villa.
