Down the attacking pecking order Kubo has moved into a reserve role after beginning the season as a starter, making five La Liga appearances this season.

Impact Kubo has fallen behind Ander Barrenetxea in the pecking order on the wing after initially opening the campaign in the starting XI. He remains a regular attacking option off the bench, but Barrenetxea's emergence has reduced his opportunities from the start. Kubo should remain involved through rotation while looking to work his way back into a more prominent role.

Impact Kubo suffered the injury during Japan's opening group match, an incident stemming from a challenge by Denzel Dumfries, and was unable to play the following two matches before his tournament ended with a round of 32 loss to Brazil on June 29. His integration into training is expected to be gradual, with coach Sergio Francisco monitoring how he responds to the demands of full sessions. Kubo becomes the first Real Sociedad player from the World Cup to join preseason training. Kubo is expected to build up his workload progressively as his recovery continues.

Impact Kubo's continued absence from team training leaves his return date uncertain, with Japan needing to navigate their round of 32 fixture against Brazil without one of their most important attacking options. Upgraded to group training Kubo (knee) was allowed back into team training Sunday ahead of Monday's match against Brazil, according to Football Zone.

Impact Kubo has been added back to team training a day before Japan takes the field against Brazil, a huge boost to his health. He did claim to the media he was "in a good state," although it still appears his usage against Brazil will be unlikely. This will likely leave Japan needing to win if Kubo wants to return to the field again this tournament, potentially earning a bench spot Monday, but unlikely to see time if this is the case.

Back on training pitch Kubo (knee) is back on the training pitch ahead of Japan's knockout stage match, according to Football Zone.

Impact Kubo is on the road to recovery this week as he steps up his participation following a knee injury, as the attacker was able to get back on the training pitch. It is yet to be seen if this will be enough for him to make the round of 32 game, as he was left behind for rehabilitation ahead of their group stage finale, and it appears he only trained individually Friday. If fit, this would be a major boost, as he started and earned an assist in their opener before his exit.

Unlikely for Sweden clash Kubo (knee) has not returned to group training two days before Japan's clash against Sweden and is very likely to miss the fixture, according to Football Zone.

Impact Kubo sustained the knee injury after a collision in the second half of the match against the Netherlands, leaving the pitch in a wheelchair before undergoing thorough medical examinations the following day that confirmed a left knee injury. He did not travel with the squad for the Tunisia match, remaining at the base camp in Nashville to continue his rehabilitation. While his movement appeared smoother than immediately after the injury during recent sessions, his continued absence from collective training with just two days until the Sweden fixture makes his involvement extremely unlikely.

Impact Kubo suffered a mild knee sprain in Japan's World Cup opener against the Netherlands and is running individually as he works through his recovery. He could target a return in the knockout stage if Japan advance. This is encouraging for the attacker, as it appears a return to this tournament is likely. However, this may depend on whether Japan can qualify for the knockouts, as it now appears a group stage return for Kubo could be unlikely. Either way, he will be doing his best to cure his knee and return as soon as possible.

Impact Kubo appeared to take a knock to the knee and received medical treatment before his exit from the game, in which he set up the first of Japan's goals. While the attacker is hopeful to avoid a major issue, he'll need to be assessed and could be at risk of missing the next World Cup matchup against Tunisia. His absence would significantly limit the team's dribbling talent and would be covered by either Junya Ito or Sunday's assist contributor Koki Ogawa.

This is a major storyline to watch for the team as they advance in the tournament, as he is a major part of the attack, their star young talent. Creative heartbeat of Japan Kubo has been named in Japan's World Cup squad and is expected to be the primary attacking threat and creative force for the Samurai Blue throughout the competition.

Impact Kubo made 24 La Liga appearances for Real Sociedad this season, contributing two goals and four assists while also winning the Copa del Rey in what was a positive if injury-affected campaign for the young winger. The left-footed right winger brings dribbling ability, quick feet and a creative vision that makes him Japan's most dangerous individual attacker, and manager Moriyasu will build much of Japan's attacking play around his ability to create chances and unlock defenses with his technical brilliance. Kubo heads into the World Cup as the player the entire nation will be watching most closely, and a deep run at the tournament could finally establish him as one of the best players in the world.

Impact Kubo tore his left hamstring in mid-January and spent time in Japan working with trusted physiotherapists before gradually building back up through gym work and individual sessions. The Japanese winger has been back in group training for nearly two weeks, with Monday marking his first session without any restrictions. His return is a major boost for Real Sociedad heading into the final stretch of the season, though he will not be thrown straight into the starting lineup given the length of his absence, with Goncalo Guedes and Ander Barrenetxea having locked down the wide roles during his time away. Still, even half an hour of Kubo off the bench could be a game-changer for coach Matarazzo's side.
