Transfers to Newcastle Botman has signed a five-year contract with Newcastle United after transferring from Lille, the club announced Tuesday.

Impact Botman kept 28 clean sheets in 62 Ligue 1 appearances during his two seasons with Lille, including 20 clean sheets in 37 starts as he helped his club upset perennial powerhouses PSG to win the league title in 2020/21. The 22-year-old is now moving to the Premier League, where he will likely slide straight into Newcastle's starting lineup alongside Dan Burn in central defense, if not next to another new signing or even Fabian Schar or Jamaal Lascelles. Meanwhile, Tiago Djalo will likely slide back into the center and partner Jose Fonte in defense at Lille next season.
