GAME LOG

First goal of season from bench appearance Barkley scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Sunday's 4-0 win versus AFC Bournemouth.
Impact Barkley came on as a substitute Sunday after 71 minutes and headed home his first strike of the season, converting a near-post flick from a corner in the 77th minute. Other than the goal contribution his activity in the match was modest, he made two recoveries and won three of the five duels he engaged in. The veteran midfielder has made five appearances and no starts this season, it is likely he will continue to be used judiciously from the bench to try and make an impact in matches during their latter stages.

Features off bench Barkley (personal) made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in Sunday's 2-1 win against Burnley, confirming he is back fit and available for Aston Villa.
Impact Barkley missed the beginning of the season due to personal problems but is now fully available for Aston Villa after featuring six minutes in Sunday's win against the Clarets, contributing one shot and one clearance. The midfielder will, however, maintain the same role as last season and remain a bench option at best under coach Unai Emery.
OCTOBER 5 • ROTOWIRE
Still unavailable Barkley (personal) is out for Sunday's clash with Fulham, despite returning to the training grounds, per manager Unai Emery. "[Ross] Barkley is not available."
Impact Barkley has been out with a personal issue, and is now back at the training ground. It appears he's now getting up to fitness as he's still not ready for a place in the squad. Barkley has been a depth option when available, with just three starts since joining Aston Villa last season.
SEPTEMBER 26 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to training grounds Barkley (personal) was back in training Wednesday, according to John Townley of Birmingham Mail.
Impact Barkley has been out to begin the season as he deals with some personal issues, but looks to be in for a return soon after he was back in training. This is solid news for both parties, as he should rejoin the squad soon to earn his debut this campaign. He won't be available for UEL action, but could be an option when facing Fulham on Sunday.
SEPTEMBER 24 • ROTOWIRE
Dealing with personal problem Barkley is dealing with a personal problem and is not available for the time being, manager Unai Emery told media during Friday's pre-match press conference. "We have not available...
Impact Emery didn't reveal the nature of the problem, but it doesn't seem as if the veteran midfielder will be close to returning to action in the near future. Barkley has yet to play for Villa this season, but he's not expected to have a large role in the squad even when he's fit and ready to return.
SEPTEMBER 12 • ROTOWIRE
Not included on Europa League squad Barkley (undisclosed) hasn't been included in Aston Villa's official list for the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League.
Impact Barkley won't be available to play for Villa in the European stage after being left out of the squad. His availability for the upcoming EPL contest, against Everton on Sep. 13, is also uncertain. The veteran midfielder has yet to play this season while dealing with an undisclosed injury.
SEPTEMBER 5 • ROTOWIRE
Still sidelined Barkley (undisclosed) is out for Sunday's match against Crystal Palace.
Impact Barkley is still not ready for his return and is left out again, remaining sidelined due to an injury. This is only a loss of depth for the club, as he isn't expected to be a starter, likely to be used as a veteran depth option.
AUGUST 31 • ROTOWIRE
Not playing Saturday Barkley (undisclosed) is out for Saturday's game against Brentford, John Townley of The Birmingham Live reports.
Impact Barkley missed the EPL opener against Newcastle, and the veteran playmaker won't be available for this clash against Brentford, either. This means his next chance to play will come against Palace on Aug. 31, but even in the event that he's fit, he's not likely to have a lot of fantasy upside as a depth option in midfield for the Villains.
AUGUST 22 • ROTOWIRE
Not fit for EPL opener Barkley won't be available to face Newcastle United on Saturday due to a lack of fitness, manager Unai Emery told media Friday. "Barkley is not fit."
Impact Emery didn't deliver a lot of details regarding Barkley's lack of fitness, though the fact that he didn't call him an injured player, as he did with Andres Garcia (undisclosed), suggests Barkley might be closer to a return than the Spanish defender. Barkley missed the pre-season trip to the U.S. and the team's three subsequent friendlies due to an injury. Barkley's next chance to play will come against Brentford on the road on Aug. 23.
AUGUST 15 • ROTOWIRE
Three goals despite minimal time Barkley started in three of his 20 appearances while registering three goals on 16 shots and one assist on nine chances created in the Premier League.
Impact Barkley saw a drop-off to more of a rotational role with Aston Villa this season after his starting role with Luton Town last campaign. This would limit the midfielder to just over 500 minutes this season, nearly a 2,000-minute difference. However, he was still able to earn a decent four-goal contribution in his very few minutes of play. This was the first year of a three-year deal for the midfielder, so he will hope to see a bit more time next season, especially after the 30-year-old missed around three months due to an injury.
JUNE 4 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to bench Barkley (calf) is on the bench for Wednesday's match against PSG.
Impact Barkley is back with the team after a long absence, last playing Jan. 10 due to a calf injury. The good news is he is fit again and earning a spot on the bench. He will look to test his legs later in the match, although that will likely depend on the intensity and pace of the match.
APRIL 9 • ROTOWIRE
Still sidelined Barkley (calf) is out for Saturday's match against Nottingham Forest.
Impact Barkley is set to serve yet another match on the sidelines after being left out Saturday. He was a possibility, so a return is likely near. That said, Wednesday's match against PSG likely isn't out of the picture.
APRIL 5 • ROTOWIRE
Possibility for Sunday Barkley (calf) is questionable for Saturday's match against Nottingham Forest, according to manager Unai Emery. "Ross is working with the team this week. We can feel happy because...
Impact Barkley could be on the mend this week, as the midfielder appears to be close to shaking off his injury after around three months out. This leaves him questionable, likely needing to pass some testing to be considered fit. He will probably see a spot on the bench if fit, not seeing a major role to start after an extended absence.
APRIL 4 • ROTOWIRE
Trains with group Barkley (calf) is training with the group and appears to be fit for Wednesday's match against Brighton, according to manager Unai Emery. "At the beginning, Barkley, he was training...
Impact Barkley looks to be on the brink of his return, as he was in training Monday ahead of the contest. That said, he will likely be a late call for the midweek contest, needing to pass a fitness test to be an option. This could be a major return, as he last played Jan. 10, although a bench spot should only be expected to begin in his return.
APRIL 1 • ROTOWIRE
Remains out Barkley (calf) is out for Sunday's trip to Preston North End, per manager Unai Emery. "I think the only player not available, ruled out for tomorrow, is Barkley,"
Impact Barkley isn't an option for the first match coming out of the international break. The midfielder is getting closer to a return but still isn't quite fit for Sunday's match. His first chance to return will be an April 2 clash with Brighton.
MARCH 28 • ROTOWIRE
Missing out again Barkley (calf) is out for Wednesday's match against Club Brugge, according to manager Unai Emery, per Jacob Tanswell of the Athletic. "Ross is not [back]."
Impact Barkley is set to miss out yet again, with the midfielder still not fit from his calf injury after two months out. He was expcted to be nearing a return around a month ago, although that claim has proven false, as he is now out until at least after the international break, hoping to be fit when they return in FA Cup action on March 30.
MARCH 11 • ROTOWIRE
Remains out Barkley (calf) remains sidelined for Saturday's trip to Brentford, according to manager Unai Emery. "Barkley is out, not available for tomorrow, Onana is starting to work with the...
Impact Barkley remains on the sideline with a calf injury and isn't an option for Saturday's clash. The midfielder will only have one more chance to return before the March international break, a March 12 clash with Club Brugge in the Champions League.
MARCH 7 • ROTOWIRE
Nearing training Barkley (calf) is about a week away from training, Aston Villa announced.
Impact Barkley is coming back from a calf injury and could resume training in the next week. The hope would be to get the midfielder back sooner rather than later, as he's a valuable depth option. Barkley has missed nine matches while spending just over a month on the sideline.
FEBRUARY 21 • ROTOWIRE
Two or three weeks out confirmed Barkley (calf) is several weeks from a return, according to manager Unai Emery. "Ross is, more or less, two to three weeks more."
Impact Barkley is out for a few more weeks moving forward as expected, not set to be fit for another two or three weeks. This comes just after suffering his injury, having yet to miss a match due to his complications. That said, he likely won't see a chance of returning until Jan. 29 when facing Celtic.
JANUARY 14 • ROTOWIRE
Set for three weeks out Barkley (calf) is set to miss around three weeks due to a calf injury, according to manager Unai Emery, per Eduardo Tansley of The Atheltic. "Ross, yes he had a small injury in his...
Impact Barkley looks to be heading for the sidelines, handed a lengthy spell out after a calf injury in FA Cup play. He has started in their past two matches, so this will force a change, with Amadou Onana likely reclaiming a spot in the starting XI. He will likely be set for a return around the end of January, although it could be shorter depending on his recovery.
JANUARY 11 • ROTOWIRE
Injured early Barkley was forced off with an apparent injury during the first half of Friday's clash with West Ham.
Impact Barkley was injured and brought off during the opening 25 minutes. The midfielder was helped off and Amadou Onana came on early. Barkley isn't a major piece of the starting XI, but his absence would leave Villa lacking depth in central midfield, which could be an issue during one of the busiest parts of the schedule.
JANUARY 10 • ROTOWIRE
Scores in start Barkley scored one goal to go with two shots (one on goal) in Saturday's 2-1 victory against Leicester City.
Impact Barkley was promoted to Aston Villa's starting XI on Saturday, and he rewarded the lineup decision by logging the team's first goal against Leicester City. Barkley has logged a goal in each of his last two starts, which suggests the midfielder should be rewarded with more of them more often.
