Could play Saturday
Matarrita (strain) isn't in the injury report ahead of Saturday's match against Chicago.
Impact
Matarrita missed Tuesday's trip to Seattle so he didn't have to worry about his ankle when playing on turf but should at least be available against the Fire. If he starts, Matarrita would take over at left-back over Alvaro Barreal.

Out against Seattle
Matarrita will miss Tuesday's match at Seattle as a precaution from a knock taken in training, according to manager Pat Noonan via Laurel Pfahler of the Queen City Press.
Impact
Matarrita is unlikely to be out for very long, though his three substitute appearances in September were his first matches played since March after overcoming an ankle injury. Alvaro Barreal and John Nelson are expected to be the top two options at left-wingback while Matarrita is out.

Aiming for August return
Matarrita (ankle) is targeting a return to training with FC Cincinnati by the end of next week, Laurel Pfahler of Queen City Press reported Thursday.
Impact
Matarrita hasn't played since March, and he's since undergone an operation on his ankle and been evaluated by multiple doctors as he rehabilitates. There is now hope that he can return to the squad by late August and potentially push Alvaro Barreal and John Nelson for the starting spot at left-back.

Training individually
Matarrita (ankle) was doing individual work with FC Cincinnati on Wednesday, Laurel Pfahler of the Queen City Press reports.
Impact
Matarrita has been out since the March international break when he suffered an ankle injury that required surgery to repair. The initial timetable for his recovery was six months, so even though his sighting this week is encouraging, he is still likely a long ways away from fitness.

The timetable for Matarrita's return will be determined after his surgery on Monday. This is already his second injury of the season after missing two games in March with a leg injury. Impact
Matarrita scored in the loss to Columbus just before joining Costa Rica for their World Cup Qualifiers and returns as an immensely important player at club level as well. There aren't too many options who can capably fill Matarrita's spot at left-back, so Alvaro Barreal could get another start on the left flank if there's no room for a defender out wide.
