Extends contract with Orlando
Schlegel has signed a two-year contract extension with the option to further extend for two additional seasons with Orlando City, the club announced Wednesday.
Impact
Schlegel has kept 12 clean sheets in 66 MLS appearances (47 starts) across his three campaigns in Orlando, and last season he was a regular in central defense as both Robin Jansson and Antonio Carlos battled through long-term injuries. The 25-year-old has now signed on with the club through 2024 at least.

Ends season as starter
Schlegel kept six clean sheets and scored a goal in 30 MLS appearances (24 starts) this season.
Impact
Schlegel started just under 80 percent of Orlando's league games from April onwards, and he scored his first ever MLS goal against Columbus this season. The 25-year-old perhaps benefitted from long-term injuries to both Robin Jansson and Antonio Carlos throughout the campaign, but the 25-year-old will want to prove in 2023 that he can be a reliable center-back starter for Orlando even when everyone is healthy.

Defensive domination
Schlegel recorded two won tackles, three interceptions and four clearances during Saturday's 1-0 win over Miami.
Impact
Schlegel dominated on defense making several tackles and interceptions for the Orlando squad. With 62 clearances and and 24 interceptions in just 12 starts, Schlegel is likely to be a strong contributor to the defense and a key part of the starting XI for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Takes two shots in draw
Schlegel took two shots and created a chance in Wednesday's 0-0 draw against the Revolution. He also made six clearances, an interception and won two of two tackles in the match.
Impact
Schlegel played well on both sides of the ball on Wednesday, but he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season -- including his double-booking red card in late May -- and will be suspended for Saturday's clash against Houston. Kyle Smith or Thomas Williams could replace him in central defense for the game as Antonio Carlos (hamstring) likely won't be fit enough yet.

Available against Revolution
Schlegel has served his one-match ban and is eligible to play versus New England on June 15.
Impact
After starting the year primarily as a substitute, Schlegel had made seven straight starts prior to his sending off versus Austin FC on May 23. In those contests, the central defender recorded one goal on three shots (one on target), 35 clearances and 16 tackles (eight won). Even if he does reclaim his place in the starting XI, Schlegel will be hard-pressed to offer more than mid-range fantasy value.

Sent off in draw
Schlegel was sent off during the 60th minute of Sunday's 2-2 draw with Austin.
Impact
Schlegel was shown a second yellow card during the second half of Sunday's draw. The defender will now be sidelined for a Saturday clash with Dallas. It's uncertain who will come into the starting XI in his place, but with Antonio Carlos (hamstring) out, it may be hard for Orlando to fill a defensive unit.

Scores goal against Columbus
Schlegel scored a goal and made two blocks in Saturday's 2-0 victory against the Crew. He also made five clearances and four interceptions in the match.
Impact
Schlegel opened the scoring Saturday with his first ever MLS goal and he also kept his second clean sheet in a row since Antonio Carlos went down with a hamstring injury. He will be confident ahead of next weekend's clash against the Red Bulls, which have scored 10 times in seven matches this season.

Extends contract with Orlando
Schlegel has signed a two-year contract extension with Orlando City with the option to further extend for an additional two years, the club announced Wednesday.
Impact
Schlegel improved during his second year in MLS, keeping four clean sheets in 23 MLS appearances (16 starts) in central defense in 2021. He's still the third option behind Antonio Carlos and Robin Jansson heading into next season, but the 24-year-old is likely to continue to develop from here.

On bench in playoff loss
Schlegel was an unused substitute in last week's Round One defeat against Nashville SC.
Impact
Schlegel was the third option at center back for Orlando this season, keeping four clean sheets in 23 MLS appearances (16 starts) behind the more-experienced pair of Robin Jansson and Antonio Carlos.

Back with team
Schlegel (personal) returned to team training earlier this week and will be an option for Saturday's match against the Red Bulls, reports Orlando Sentinel.
Impact
Schlegel is back in the team after missing the last month following the death of his father. He'll probably need to work on his fitness for a couple weeks before being ready to start, but once ready, he should move back into the starting XI at center-back alongside Antonio Carlos, likely pushing Robin Jansson out wide again.

Remains in Argentina
Schlegel is in Argentina following the death of his father, who had contracted COVID-19. He doesn't have a timeline to return to the team, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Impact
Schlegel went down to Argentina a month ago and things unfortunately didn't get better for his family. Once he returns to Orlando, he'll likely need a few days of training to get back his fitness, so it's unknown when he'll be an option again.

Away from team
Schlegel is away from his club while dealing with a family situation, according to Julia Poe of the Orlando Sentinel.
Impact
Schlegel has a couple of weeks to take care of his personal matters, and there's a hope he'll be back when the international break is over June 19 against Toronto. Either he or Kyle Smith could start at left-back in that game against TFC.
