Set for surgery Asencio will undergo surgery Thursday after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right tibia, according to the club.

Impact Asencio will now require surgery after dealing with persistent discomfort in his right shin. Mulling potential surgery Asencio is contemplating surgery due to his ongoing shin problems, and a decision on his status could be made in the coming days, according to Jose Luis Calderon of MARCA.

Impact Asencio has returned to training, but the pain hasn't stopped, and that, along with his off-field problems, has kept him from playing a single minute in 2026/27 so far. A decision could be made soon, and if he undergoes surgery, Asencio could be sidelined for two to three months, per Calderon.

Buried on depth chart Asencio has yet to play a competitive minute this season after falling down the pecking order in central defense.

Impact Asencio remains behind Dean Huijsen, Ibrahima Konate and Antonio Rudiger in the center-back hierarchy, while the injured Eder Militao should provide further competition once available. The defender had a much larger role last season, making 23 La Liga appearances and recording 17 tackles, 10 interceptions and 57 clearances. With several options currently ahead of him, Asencio could struggle for regular playing time without injuries or significant rotation.

Makes squad for Betis clash Asencio (illness) has been included in the matchday squad for Friday's clash against Real Betis, the club posted.

Impact Asencio had been hospitalized with bacterial enterocolitis and lost six kilos in two weeks during his illness, making his inclusion in the squad a remarkable turnaround given the severity of the situation. The young center-back is unlikely to be thrown straight into the starting lineup after such a debilitating spell, but his presence in the squad gives Real Madrid a valuable depth option in the back line with Eder Militao (hamstring) sidelined again. Getting him back available even in a rotational capacity is a welcome boost for the Merengues heading into the final stretch of the season.

Back in training Asencio (illness) has returned to training and could be an option for Friday's clash against Real Betis, according to MadridXtra.

Impact Asencio's return to training is a timely development for the Merengues, particularly given Eder Militao's ongoing absence from the defensive unit. The center-back is expected to come off the bench rather than slot straight into the starting lineup, but his availability nonetheless provides valuable depth at the back. His recovery from bacterial enterocolitis appears to be progressing well, and Friday's fixture could mark his return to the matchday squad.
