Mostly backup option in Dallas Nanu's contract option for 2023 was declined by FC Dallas and he will return to Porto when his loan expires in January.

Impact Nanu made 29 appearances (11 starts) during his loan season in MLS and he recorded two assists from right-back, but the 28-year-old was typically behind Ema Twumasi in the depth chart and he will not be returning to Dallas for the next campaign.

Impact Nanu's late cross found Paul Arriola to extend his side's lead Saturday against an admittedly mostly second-string Seattle team, but it counts as his second assist of the season all the same. This was his second appearance off the bench since missing a few games with a hamstring injury in mid-April, but he is working his way back to full fitness.

Loaned to Dallas Nanu has joined FC Dallas on a season-long loan from FC Porto, the club announced Monday.

Impact Nanu hasn't featured at all for Porto this season in either the Portuguese League or the Champions League, so the 27-year-old is moving to MLS for 2022 after he's done competing with Guinea-Bissau at the African Cup of Nations. He will compete for the starting right back spot in Dallas with Justin Che and Ema Twumasi.
