Gains vital role for Le Racing
Sanson scored once on 32 shots and tallied two assists on 18 chances created and 35 crosses along with 36 tackles in 18 appearances (all starts) for Strasbourg in season 2022/23.
Impact
Sanson joined Strasbourg from Aston Villa in January and very quickly gained a vital role for the club producing great peripheral numbers on both sides of the ball and helping for a few goals even. The playmaker though will return to Villa where he was virtually a non-factor in the first part of the season with just two appearances off the bench and could be looking for new home this Summer again.

Makes bench against Spurs
Sanson is fit and in the match day squad to face Tottenham on Sunday.
Impact
Sanson returns to the squad after missing time due to an undisclosed injury. The midfielder has played just one minute in the league this season so it's unlikely he'll make his way onto the pitch even while being at full fitness.

Sanson is not in the match day squad to face Liverpool on Monday.
Impact
Sanson misses out on the match after suffering from an undisclosed injury. The midfielder has played just one minute in the league this season so his absence is not one of much consequence.

Skips friendly Thursday
Sanson wasn't available for Thursday's friendly against Villarreal due to an undisclosed issue, according to Ashely Preece of the Birmingham Mail.
Impact
Sanson only made one appearance over the first half of the season and will need to regain his fitness soon if he's to stick with Villa long-term. The league will return Dec. 26 against Liverpool for Sanson.

Struggles for minutes
Sanson didn't appear in the final six matches in which he was healthy, totaling 10 league appearances (three starts) for the season.
Impact
Things haven't gone to plan for Sanson since coming over from Marseille and there's no reason that will change in the future. He still has a couple years on his contract, but he's simply a backup for Villa's midfield, something that won't change as they add more players.

Available against Burnley
Sanson (undisclosed) returned to training and is available for Saturday's trip to Burnley, according to manager Steven Gerrard.
Impact
Sanson missed the prior two matches with an unknown issue but will be back Saturday with a start possible because of the injury to Jacob Ramsey. That said, Sanson has rarely featured this season, starting just three matches while compiling only one shot and one chance created in his 10 appearances.

Out with injury
Villa manager Steven Gerrard said Friday that Sanson (undisclosed) will miss Saturday's clash against Norwich City.

ROTOWIRE
Out against Leicester
Sanson is not available for Saturday's match against Leicester, according to manager Steven Gerrard.
Impact
It's unknown what Sanson is dealing with, but he hasn't had much of a role in the side anyway. He received a spot start at Wolves a couple matches ago, but he didn't show much in the loss and didn't even come off the bench the next match. Fortunately for him, this will be his first absence since December, so he's at least been healthy.

Starting against Chelsea
Sanson (undisclosed) is in the starting XI for Sunday's match against Chelsea.
Impact
Sanson has made just three appearances this season, but it looks like he's fit enough to start Boxing Day in a tough spot. It's unclear what he'll be able to do and how long he'll play, making him a tough fantasy option to trust in a match that Villa won't have much possession in.

ROTOWIRE
Still sidelined Saturday
Sanson (undisclosed) will not be ready to play versus Burnley on Saturday.
Impact
It will be Sanson's second straight match on the shelf due to his lingering undisclosed injury. Given the midfielder's yet to feature in the starting XI this season, he should probably be expected to feature exclusively offer the bench even once given the all-clear to rejoin the squad.

Misses win against Norwich
Sanson wasn't in the squad for Tuesday's win against Norwich City because of an undisclosed issue.
Impact
Sanson can't seem to stay healthy and his latest absence came after appearing off the bench three-straight matches. It's been a troubled year for him at Villa and the hope is that he can get back to form and fitness in the coming months, something that's yet to happen for him.

Back in squad Saturday
Sanson (hamstring) is on the bench for Saturday's match against Wolverhampton.
Impact
Sanson returned to training this week and is apparently healthy enough to make the bench Saturday. He still doesn't have much of a role in the team, but he'll hope to find some minutes off the bench over the next month to get back some match fitness.

Out with hamstring injury
Sanson is expected to be out around a month because of a hamstring injury, according to manager Dean Smith. "He just felt a twinge in his hamstring. We don't believe it's going to...
Impact
A month-long absence for a hamstring injury is more than a tweak and playing on it for a few minutes may have made it worse for Sanson. It's yet another injury he has to deal with in what has been an injury-ravaged year he's had since signing for Villa.

Sanson (knee) is on the bench for Saturday's match against Chelsea.
Impact
Sanson is back in the squad after recovering and playing with the U23s over the break. It's unknown what kind of role he'll have for Villa, as it appears he'll be more of a bench option this season, even without Jack Grealish in the squad.

Playing with U23s
Sanson (knee) is starting Tuesday's match with Villa's U23s.
Impact
Sanson looks to be edging closer to full health and some minutes with the U23s will undoubtedly help. He'll have more than a week to get back to full strength ahead of Villa's next match, meaning he could be an option for the Sept. 11 trip to Chelsea.

Hopeful to be option after break
Sanson (knee) is training fully and will aim to play a game or two over the break, according to manager Dean Smith.
Impact
This is a good sign for Sanson, who could be an option after the international break. It's unknown if this is the same knee injury he suffered back in April, but once healthy, he'll try and find a role with the team after struggling through injury last season.

ROTOWIRE
Still not ready to play
Sanson (knee) didn't appear in the preseason and won't be an option for Saturday's opener against Watford, according to Sky Sports.
Impact
Sanson wasn't mentioned by Dean Smith in his press conference, but that's likely because it's a long-term injury. He only recently returned to light training, as he's been out since May with a knee injury. For now, it's assumed he'll be out the first few matches until Villa have a new update on him.

ROTOWIRE
Out final two matches
Sanson suffered a recurrence of his knee injury in training and will miss the final two matches, according to manager Dean Smith.
Impact
Sanson had a bumpy first season with Villa after arriving from Marseille in January. He struggled to find form and a knee injury kept him out the final month. He was a regular at Marseille, but finding playing time hasn't been as easy at Villa even without Jack Grealish in the squad. He closes the season with three starts from nine appearances, never playing more than 67 minutes in a Premier League match.

ROTOWIRE
Set to train next week
Sanson (knee) is set to train next week, according to manager Dean Smith.
Impact
Smith gave the same update on Sanson last week, so the injury is clearly still a problem. With two matches to go, it wouldn't be surprising if Sanson didn't make another appearance for Villa this season. He's been out since Apr. 4 and there hasn't been an update on the exact knee injury he's dealing with.
