Mathys Tel - Soccer News, Rumors, & Updates

Sees role diminish Tel started the first three Premier League matches of the season but was on the bench against Everton before being left out of the squad against Aston Villa.

Impact Tel has seen his role decrease after beginning the campaign as a regular starter, with Omar Marmoush now ahead of him on the left wing. The return of several injured players could create further competition and reduce his opportunities moving forward. Tel remains without a goal contribution despite attempting six shots, creating three chances and delivering 12 crosses across four Premier League appearances, including three starts.

SEPTEMBER 25 • ROTOWIRE

Seven crosses Saturday Tel generated seven crosses (two accurate) and five corners in Saturday's 0-0 draw versus Nottingham Forest.

Impact Tel started his third straight match to start the season, once again occupying the left wing. He set season highs in crosses (seven), accurate crosses (two) and corners (five), thanks in large part to the team earning a flurry of corners in a row. Tel has not looked great through three appearances and seems likely to fall out of the starting XI soon once Mohammed Kudus and Savio are fully fit.

SEPTEMBER 5 • ROTOWIRE

Two shots in season opener Tel generated two shots (zero on goal), two crosses (zero accurate) and one corner in Saturday's 3-0 defeat against Brentford.

Impact Tel started on the left side of the attack in Saturday's opener and while he managed two shots and two chances created, he struggled to really threaten the Brentford defense. Tel is coming off an up and down season with Spurs where he managed just five goal contributions across 31 appearances, and the club is actively pursuing potential replacements during this transfer window. If Spurs are able to sign the attackers they are rumored to be in for, and the likes of Mohammed Kudus (quadriceps), Xavi Simons (knee) and Dejan Kulusevski (knee) are able to return, Tel will likely find it difficult to continue to start.

AUGUST 24 • ROTOWIRE

Creates four chances in finale Tel generated two shots (zero on goal), five crosses (three accurate) and three corners in Sunday's 1-0 win versus Everton.

Impact Tel had a productive day in Sunday's season finale, helping Spurs avoid relegation. He tied a season high with four chances created and recorded three accurate crosses for the third time in his last four matches. While it wasn't a great season for Tel -- five goal contributions in 31 appearances (13 starts) -- he provided two crucial goal contributions in the final four matches of the season. While he likely won't be a regular starter next season with several attackers set to be returning from injury, he will provide some important depth on the attack.

Rollercoaster performance vs Leeds Tel scored one goal to go with two shots (one on goal), nine crosses (three accurate) and five corners in Monday's 1-1 draw versus Leeds United.

Impact Tel had quite an outing in Monday's draw. After a fairly quiet first half he got the second half off to a roaring start, scoring a blistering outside-the-box strike in the 50th minute. He wasn't able to celebrate too long though as less than 20 minutes later he attempted a bicycle kick clearance in his own box and clipped Ethan Ampadu's face. After a long VAR check the penalty was awarded and promptly scored by Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Other than that brutal mistake it was a very good game from Tel as he also recorded nine crosses and created one chance on the attack. He'll need to put this mistake behind him quickly with trip down the road to Chelsea upcoming on Sunday.

Picked for bench Tel (thigh) is on the bench for Sunday's match against Sunderland.

Impact Tel was likely for Sunday, and that has come to fruition, with the forward fit enough for a spot on the bench. He started in the five games before his injury and will look to return to that spot once fully fit again, although he has only started in nine of his 24 appearances while bagging three goals this season.

APRIL 12 • ROTOWIRE

Trains again, likely for Sunday Tel (thigh) has trained again Friday and should be an option for Sunday's match against Sunderland.

Impact Tel looks to be ready for a return Sunday after a thigh injury, as after training earlier in the week, the forward trained again Friday. This will give the club a regular starter back, as he has started in five straight appearances. During that span, he has one assist, coming in UCL play, with only three goals and no assists in 24 appearances (nine starts) in league play this season.

APRIL 10 • ROTOWIRE

Trains in full Tel (thigh) returned to full team training under new coach Roberto de Zerbi and is on track to be available for the clash against Sunderland on April 12, the club posted.

Impact Tel had withdrawn from the France U21 squad after picking up a thigh injury during the lost against Nottingham Forest prior to the break, but further tests confirmed the issue was not serious. The forward has wasted no time getting back on the pitch under his new manager, and the timing of his return could work in his favor with De Zerbi still assessing his options across the squad. Tel has contributed three goals in 24 Premier League appearances this season and will be looking to make a strong impression in the final stretch of the season.

Could be available after break Tel (thigh) could be available after the international break when Tottenham play Sunderland on April 12, according to Alasdair Gold of Football.London.

Impact Even though Tel had to withdraw from the France squad following the injury he sustained in the 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, further tests indicated the injury isn't serious. Therefore, as long as Tel rests and doesn't suffer further setbacks, he could be available for the Spurs once they resume their campaign. Tel has three goals on 24 appearances (nine starts) in the Premier League this season.

MARCH 27 • ROTOWIRE

Withdraws from France Espoirs Tel (thigh) has withdrawn from the France Espoirs squad after being unable to continue training with the Bleuets Tuesday, according to L'Equipe.

Impact Tel picked up a thigh injury Saturday when he was forced off in the 67th minute of Tottenham's 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest. The 20-year-old attempted to push through the injury and was present for the start of the international camp, but was ultimately ruled out after a light training session Tuesday. His availability for Spurs' next fixture will be worth monitoring, particularly as the Spurs look to avoid relegation in the final stretch of the season.

Impact Tel was forced off in the second half of Sunday's loss to Nottingham Forest with what looked like an injury, but it turned out to be minor since he is joining the French Espoirs for international duty. That is a big boost for both Spurs and France, as he is a key piece for both squads and they will need him healthy for what is ahead, especially Tottenham in its fight to avoid relegation by the end of the campaign.

MARCH 24 • ROTOWIRE

Leaves with apparent injury Tel was forced off the field in the 67th minute of Sunday's 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest due to an apparent injury.

Impact Tel would play over the hour mark, but would be taken off soon after, suffering what appears to have been an injury. This is a concern for the club after he has proven to be one of their best players over the past few games. The club cannot really lose another player to injury as they fight the relegation battle, hoping it is only a minor issue and he can return after the break.

MARCH 22 • ROTOWIRE

Highly productive Wednesday Tel assisted once to go with five shots (five on goal), 12 crosses (three accurate) and six corners in Wednesday's 3-2 win against Atletico Madrid.

Impact Tel had his best performance of the season Wednesday, highlighted by his assist on Randal Kolo Muani's header in the 30th minute which opened up the scoring. That was the only chance Tel created in the match, but he also set season highs in crosses (12) and corners (six). Tel also put five shots on target, shattering his previous season high, and while not all of them were threatening, that pressure in the box kept Atletico stressed throughout the match. He will look to bring this form into the Premier League and help keep Spurs away from relegation with eight Premier League matches to go.

MARCH 19 • ROTOWIRE

Busy in draw Tel had one shot (zero on goal), six crosses (two accurate) and three corners in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

Impact Tel sent in six crosses and took three corners during Sunday's draw. The striker hasn't thrived this season, but he had plenty of empty volume during Sunday's clash. It wasn't a brilliant showing, but the volume is encouraging for an improvement going forward. If Tel can improve throughout the end of the season he could play a role in Tottenham avoiding a true relegation fight.

MARCH 16 • ROTOWIRE

Productive in Thursday's loss Tel generated three shots (one on goal), four crosses (three accurate) and four corners in Thursday's 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace.

Impact Tel made his first start since Jan. 17 Thursday and he provided a nice spark on the attack. He created four chances, took three shots and recorded three accurate crosses, all of which led the team. With Spurs desperate for more production on the attack, Tel could earn more starts if he keeps playing at this level.

MARCH 6 • ROTOWIRE

Six crosses off bench Tel had six crosses (one accurate) and four corners in Sunday's 2-1 loss to Fulham.

Impact Tel had a productive appearance off the bench Sunday as he recorded six crosses for the fourth time this season, but the first time off the bench. He also created one chance and took four corners in his 32 minutes of action. He's been productive off the bench over the last three matches and will likely continue coming off the bench with much of Spurs' attack finally healthy again.

MARCH 2 • ROTOWIRE

Six shots off bench Tel had six shots (zero on goal), two crosses (one accurate) and two chances created in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Newcastle United.

Impact Tel subbed onto the pitch in the 35th minute Tuesday to replace the injured Wilson Odobert (knee). Tel was very active on the attack throughout the rest of the contest, recording a season-high six shots, but he failed to put a single one on target. He added two chances created and two crosses on the attack. Tel has struggled to find his way with Spurs but he may be forced back into the lineup depending on the severity of Odobert's injury.
