Impact Mariano was given the start so that Karim Benzema could get some rest after playing four times in the first two weeks of April. Now that Benzema at least had the opportunity to not start a match, Mariano will likely return to the bench by Wednesday's match against Cadiz and not return to the lineup until the UCL causes more fixture congestion.

Impact Mariano picked up a muscular injury at the start of March and it kept him out for much of the last month. He's still only a backup behind Karim Benzema, so his availability won't change much for fantasy.

Impact Mariano adds to one of the lengthier injury lists in the league and leaves Los Blancos without both of their senior strikers. There's a chance that Karim Benzema (groin) could return by Sunday's derby against Atletico Madrid, but if neither are able to play Isco could feature as a false-9 for a second time in his last three appearances. In the case of Mariano, it's safe to assume that he'll be out for at least two weeks and by that time Benzema should be back and in control of the striking role once again.

Impact Mariano made his first start since the end of November due to Karim Benzema's adductor injury. Given how bad the attacking player performed without Benzema, Mariano doesn't project to hold much value for the next league matches against two tough defenses in Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid. Before that, Mariano could get another start in Wednesday's UCL match against Atalanta.

Impact In one full swoop, Mariano and the rest of the injury list returned to training and should be available for Sunday's match at Eibar. For Mariano, he's missed three straight league matches and one in the Champions League and will likely end up on the bench with Karim Benzema in good form and Eden Hazard (thigh) a safe bet to take back his place.

Impact Mariano trained on his own Friday and was a late addition to the injury report. With both he and Luka Jovic unavailable, Karim Benzema is in line to start Saturday's match. Now that Benzema is heathy, Mariano will probably spend most matches on the bench even after scoring one goal in five appearances (three starts) over the past month.

Impact Mariano was once again the starting striker with Karim Benzema (leg) still unavailable. He's done well to keep himself busy, but one can't help but think that Karim Benzema could have done even better with the opponents that were faced over the past week. No matter who starts in the next match against Shakhtar Donetsk, both can expect a fair share of chances to score.

Scores opener against Villarreal Mariano scored a goal off his lone shot and created two chances during Saturday's 1-1 draw against Villarreal.

Impact Mariano made his first start of the season, benefiting from the absence of both Karim Benzema (leg) and Luka Jovic (COVID-19), and opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, diving beautifully inside the box to head Dani Carvajal's cross. He couldn't do much aftewards and was replaced by Marco Asensio in the 85th minute. Jovic will be out for some more games and Benzema will be evaluated in a day-to-day basis, so there's a chance for Mariano to remain in the starting XI for Wednesday's pivotal Champions League visit to Inter Milan.
