Suffers muscular injury Marcao suffered a tear in his right thigh and will be out for the rest of 2022, his club announced Friday.
Impact Marcao offered a huge improvement to the defense when on the pitch but he didn't get fit until early October and only lasted seven matches while able to play. Nemanja Gudelj should continue as a center-back in his absence and both Marcao and Tanguy Nianzou (quadriceps) need to improve their fitness in 2023.

Considered major doubt for derby Marcao (quadriceps) is considered a big doubt to be fit for Sunday's derby at Betis, according to El Desmarque.
Impact Marcao picked up an injury in the first half of Wednesday's loss to Manchester City, his third different issue since joining Sevilla in the summer. As he's unlikely to play in the first city derby of the season, Nemanja Gudelj could be called into the back line once again.
NOVEMBER 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Injured yet again Marcao was forced off due to injury during Wednesday's Champions League clash with Manchester City.
Impact Marcao was unable to carry on during Wednesday's match and came off just before halftime. Nemanja Gudelj was brought on to replace Marcao in central defense. Gudelj could see a larger role during the final two matches before the World Cup break if Marcao is unable to return to the pitch, with Tianguy Nianzou (quad) also dealing with a long-term injury. Marcao's first chance to return would be a Sunday trip to Betis, an important derby matchup requiring more veteran leadership on the pitch.

Impact Marcao had to leave late into Tuesday's UCL draw with Borussia Dortmund but it appears he's avoided more serious injury. Forced off after heavy challenge Marcao was forced off in stoppage time during Tuesday's clash with Dortmund.
Impact Marcao took a heavy challenge from Julian Brandt and was holding his leg before coming off. This was Marcao's second match back from a long-term hamstring injury so another injury to the same leg would be a major concern. Marcao's first chance to return is a Saturday trip to Mallorca.
