In talks with Colorado The Rapids declined the option for the 2025 MLS season in Abubakar's contract, but both parties remain in negotiations over a new deal.

Impact The defender recently completed his fifth year with the franchise and started in 17 of his 20 appearances, notching one assist, 64 clearances, 24 interceptions and 13 tackles. Talks are expected to continue between both parties, though no deadline has been established to make a decision. To note, Abubakar started in all but two of the games he was available for Colorado since the beginning of June.
