Konrad Laimer - Soccer News, Rumors, & Updates

Logs 45 minutes for national team Laimer (groin) featured as a substitute in Thursday's UEFA Nations League draw against Ireland.

Impact Laimer replaced Nicolas Seiwald at the beginning of the second half Thursday, marking his return to the pitch following a 20-day absence. The Bayern Munich man has operated in midfield for his country, even though he's currently settled in a full-back role at the club level. He'll retain tackling and playmaking upside as long as he's available, with his presence limiting Josip Stanisic's involvement in future weeks.

Returns to full training Laimer (adductor) completed a full training session with Austria on Monday after recovering from a muscle tear, according to Kicker.

Impact Laimer has taken a significant step in his recovery after previously being limited to individual work at Bayern Munich. The versatile midfielder is now training without restrictions and could make his first appearance of the international break against Ireland on Thursday or Kosovo on Sunday. His return to full training also puts him on track to be available for Bayern when club action resumes.

Impact Laimer had already missed the recent Bundesliga match against Union Berlin due to the adductor issue, and while he'll need to wait a bit longer before fully rejoining team training, with the next collective session under coach Vincent Kompany not scheduled until Oct. 6, the club generally expects all players to be available again when Bundesliga play resumes against Augsburg.

SEPTEMBER 24 • ROTOWIRE

Out with minor adductor issue Laimer (adductor) was ruled out of Friday's Bundesliga match against Union Berlin, the club posted.

Impact Laimer picked up only a minor issue in his left adductor region, so the absence is likely to be short-term. Josip Stanisic starts at right back in his place, which gives the backline a natural replacement and keeps the midfield intact. Laimer's availability for the next match will depend on how the adductor responds in team training over the coming days.

SEPTEMBER 18 • ROTOWIRE

Starts, goes full 90 Laimer (thigh) started and went the full 90 in the 2-1 win over Dortmund in the German Super Cup on Saturday.

Impact Laimer had resumed full training earlier this week, so it wasn't surprising to see him start on the right side of the defense. Laimer is expected to be the first-choice right-back for Bayern again in the 2026/27 campaign. He made 32 starts between the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League last season.

AUGUST 22 • ROTOWIRE

Returns to full training Laimer completed a full training session with FC Bayern Munich on Tuesday after suffering a thigh bruise against RB Leipzig in the Telekom Cup, according to Absolut Bayern.

Impact Laimer suffered a thigh bruise during the Telekom Cup against RB Leipzig and was forced off, but he has now completed a full training session with FC Bayern Munich despite still having his thigh bandaged. His return to team training is a positive indication that he is recovering well, although it remains unclear whether he will be ready to feature in the Supercup against Borussia Dortmund. He should continue to be monitored through the remaining training sessions, with his ability to handle a full workload without a setback likely determining whether he is cleared for competitive action.

Impact Laimer worked only in the weight room to start the week as a precaution, with the severity of the knock initially unclear following the early withdrawal. The right back's own comments at the club's Team Day suggest the issue is limited to a bruise rather than anything more serious. Laimer is expected to be given until Saturday's Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Dortmund to prove his fitness before a final call is made on his involvement. His full participation in team training over the coming days will be the key indicator to watch.

Impact Laimer was visibly impaired and had to be helped off the pitch after struggling to move properly, with the withdrawal made as a precaution given the swelling. No reliable recovery timeline has yet been given, with further examinations in the coming days expected to clarify how long Bayern will be without the versatile defender. He had only recently rejoined the squad after a solid World Cup with Austria, contributing an assist across four appearances, and was expected to push Josip Stanisic for the starting right back role this season, with either Stanisic or Sacha Boey the likely options to fill in if he's forced to miss time. Laimer is expected to undergo further evaluation in the coming days.

AUGUST 16 • ROTOWIRE

Forced off early with injury Laimer (undisclosed) was forced off due to injury in the ninth minute of Saturday's friendly against Leipzig, according to the club.

Impact Laimer had only recently rejoined the squad in training after a solid World Cup with Austria, where he contributed an assist across four appearances, and was expected to push Josip Stanisic for the starting right back role this season. This early withdrawal is a concerning setback, and either Sacha Boey or Stanisic figure to be the likely options to fill in at right back if Laimer is forced to miss time.

AUGUST 3 • BEINSPORTS.COM

Reports back for new season Laimer has rejoined the Bayern Munich squad in training, ready to begin preparations for the new campaign, the club announced.

Impact Laimer picked up an assist across four appearances at the World Cup with Austria, continuing to show the energy and versatility that make him a valuable option across midfield and defense. He's expected to push Josip Stanisic for the starting right back role this season as competition for the spot heats up. His return coincides with the start of Bayern's Audi Summer Tour in Jeju, South Korea, where Laimer is expected to keep building toward full fitness.

AUGUST 2 • ROTOWIRE

Extends contract through 2029 Laimer signed a contract extension with Bayern Munich through June 2029, the club announced.

Impact Laimer has made 136 official appearances for Bayern since joining in 2023, scoring seven goals and adding 19 assists, while winning two Bundesliga titles along with a DFB Pokal and a German Super Cup. The defensive midfielder has also earned 61 caps for Austria, scoring seven goals, and played every minute of Austria's matches at this summer's World Cup before the team was eliminated by eventual champions Spain in the round of 32. Sporting director Christoph Freund praised his versatility, passion and consistency, calling him a role model for his work ethic. Laimer is expected to remain an important squad piece for Bayern as they push for further silverware.

JULY 20 • ROTOWIRE

Wins three tackles against Spain Laimer generated one cross (zero accurate) and one block and won three of five tackles in Thursday's 3-0 loss versus Spain.

Impact Laimer was tasked with trying to stop Lamine Yamal and tried to rough him up a couple of times, but the opponents had their way on the wing and often gave him fits. He has tallied at least one tackle in all four tilts, accumulating 10 (six won) and posting one key pass, two interceptions and one clearance.

JULY 3 • ROTOWIRE

Assists in draw Saturday Laimer assisted once to go with two crosses (zero accurate) and one chance created in Saturday's 3-3 draw versus Algeria.

Impact Laimer set up Marcel Sabitzer's goal in the second half with a perfect low cross that the Dortmund midfielder smashed home beautifully. Laimer played in a more advanced role in this match, but he figures to return to his regular defensive role in a tough Round of 32 match against Spain on Thursday, where Austria figure to be massive underdogs.

JUNE 28 • ROTOWIRE

Starts at left back Laimer recorded one tackle (zero won), one clearance and one interception in Monday's 2-0 loss versus Argentina. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 76th minute.

Impact Laimer started the game from left back after featuring in the midfield in the last contest. Laimer covered over nine kilometers and competed aggressively, winning five of his nine duels. He completed 34 passes and also recorded six sprints (mostly off the ball). He was critical to Austria's pressing structure as he was instructed to close down the channel on the left, but the press was frequently beaten due to excellent work from Nahuel Molina, Rodrigo De Paul and Lionel Messi.

JUNE 23 • ROTOWIRE

Decent as defensive midfielder Laimer logged one shot (zero on goal), one cross (zero accurate), two tackles (one won) and one interception during Austria's 3-1 win Tuesday against Jordan.

Impact Offensively, the biggest contribution Laimer provided was a deflected cross that resulted in Carney Chukwuemeka's shot on goal and near-goal. With the Austrian team's depth including more proven defenders than defensive midfielders, Laimer has shifted up from full-back to CDM, pairing with Nicolas Seiwald. But if Stefan Posch (face) is out long-term, Laimer may revert to a defender if Austria manager Ralf Rangnick prefers promoting one instead of his midfielders. Having logged 18 starts at right-back last season, Laimer is well-versed as both a CDM and RB, and the latter position likely ensures his crosses increase.

A friendly match just before the World Cup spiralled completely out of control. A Portugal star was sent off for violent conduct and now faces severe consequences

Undisputed starter for Austria Laimer has been named in Austria's World Cup squad and is expected to be one of the first names on coach Ralf Rangnick's teamsheet throughout the competition.

Impact Laimer ended a remarkable season with Bayern Munich, contributing three goals and nine assists across 29 Bundesliga appearances while winning both the Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal in what has been the most decorated campaign of his career. The Austrian brings an extraordinary combination of pressing intensity, defensive work rate and attacking contribution from right-back or midfield that makes him one of the most complete and tireless players in the tournament. Laimer heads into the World Cup as one of Austria's most important players and a key figure in coach Rangnick's high-energy pressing system that has carried the nation to their first World Cup in 28 years.

JUNE 5 • ROTOWIRE

Plays in cup final Laimer (back) was part of Bayern's starting lineup in the Pokal finale Saturday.

Impact Laimer has avoided an injury scare and should be fully fit to appear for Austria in the World Cup. He was active as a full-back on both sides during the season, finishing with three goals and 12 assists over 46 appearances (36 starts) across all competitions. Given his solid performance at the club level, he should have reasonable chances of starting for his national team in the summer competition.

MAY 23 • ROTOWIRE

Off at halftime Laimer was forced off at halftime due to a back injury during Saturday's 5-1 win over Koln.

Impact Laimer remained in the locker room at the break following a back issue suffered in a challenge against Kristoffer Lund. Laimer will hope to recover in time for Austria's opening match at the World Cup against Jordan on June 17th.

MAY 16 • ROTOWIRE
