Impact The center-back was given his marching orders in the second half for a handball in a sequence aided by the VAR, and that means Martin won't be eligible to face Atletico Madrid on Sunday. This is a huge blow for Real Sociedad, as the young center-back has been a steady presence at the back for the Donostiarra side. The new deal reflects the club's confidence in the center back's development, with plenty more expected from him as he continues to build on his early impact at the top level. During the 2025/26 season, he contributed two goals, 31 tackles, 34 interceptions and an impressive 159 clearances in 25 starts and will look to build on that campaign heading into 2026/27.

Impact Martin has trained with the group over the last two days, and even though the manager said he's feeling good, a decision on his status won't be made until after Saturday's session. Martin is a depth piece on defense, though, so he's not expected to have a big impact in fantasy even if he's deemed available to return.

Set for U20 international duty Martin was called up by Spain for the upcoming U20 World Cup in Chile.

Impact Martin is expected to be a regular for the Spain U20 squad since he's one of the few defenders with sizable experience in LaLiga. This means he'll miss several Real Sociedad matches, and with the tournament running until mid-October, he could return to the San Sebastian squad in late October. Ends season with few appearances Martin started in six of his 13 appearances while notching one assist on four chances created in La Liga.

Impact Martin was more of a rotational option this campaign, but would knock out a few starts to end the season after not seeing his first until April 12, starting in six of their final eight games. This appeared to be to give the 19-year-old some minutes at the first team level, seeing where he stands in the team heading into the 2025/26 season. That said, he is likely to still see more of a rotational move, although his solid presence on the field to end the campaign is a good sign.

APRIL 26, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Credited with odd assist Jon Martin assisted once to go with one shot (zero on goal) and one chance created in Sunday's 3-0 win over Leganes.

Impact Martin was credited with an assist in the team's third goal, but he clearly didn't mean to set up Jon Ander Olasagasti's goal. He attempted to score with a header from close range, but he ended up heading the ball in the wrong direction, which set up Olasagasti's impressive volley. This was his first assist of the season, but given he rarely plays, he shouldn't carry a lot of fantasy upside going forward.
