Called up by CANMNT Nelson has been called up to Canada's World Cup squad as a replacement for Marcelo Flores, the federation announced.

Impact Nelson's inclusion is a reward for a strong start of the MLS season with Austin FC as he scored two goals in 10 appearances for the Verdes. Nelson gives coach Jesse Marsch an additional wide attacking option heading into the tournament. The winger will now join the Canadian squad ahead of their World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12.

Impact Nelson missed three MLS contests before completing his rehabilitation from an injury he suffered on May 3. He'll likely return to action as a substitute and will then remain in contention with Owen Wolff and Jon Gallagher. Dealt to Austin Nelson was traded to Austin from Vancouver for $1.25 million GAM and the 17th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft.

Impact Nelson had a bit of a breakout with Vancouver last season, scoring twice and adding five assists in 28 appearances (16 starts.) New signings on the wing meant he spent most of the playoffs on the bench, so Vancouver decided to deal him. Nelson should compete for immediate starting minutes in Austin.
