Japhet Sery - Soccer News, Rumors, & Updates

Sidelined with concussion Sery will miss upcoming MLS action through concussion, the league announced Friday.

Impact Sery's concussion is a blow to Philadelphia's back line depth, as he has been involved in the rotation lately. However, having made only two starts since August, he was unlikely to remain one of the primary options even if healthy. A concussion usually brings a gradual return, so his availability beyond this weekend is uncertain. Nathan Harriel is expected to return to a center-back role alongside Neil Pierre, with backup option Geiner Martinez (knee) also questionable.

Out with shoulder injury Sery is listed as out for the time being due to a shoulder injury, per the MLS Player Status Report.

Impact Sery is a new addition to Philadelphia's report this matchday with a shoulder injury, adding a defensive absence to a club that was already without Philippe Ndinga. He's been part of the Union's starting backline without carrying significant fantasy upside. That said, this will force a change, with Geiner Martinez as the likely replacement.

Red card rescinded Sery's red card in the last game against Columbus was overturned, leaving him available for upcoming matches, per Joe Tansey of Bleacher Report.

Impact Sery will be able to prolong his streak of five MLS starts despite being sent off in the previous contest, so Nathan Harriel should also stay put at right-back and Geiner Martinez on the bench. The central man has scored once over nine league appearances this year, and he's valuable for defensive contributions, averaging 3.7 clearances, 4.0 ball recoveries and 1.7 interceptions per game.

Sent off against Columbus Sery received a red card in the final minutes of Saturday's 2-0 loss to Columbus Crew.

Impact Sery was sent off in stoppage time for committing a last-man foul, spoiling a productive defensive performance. The resulting suspension leaves him out of the upcoming clash with Nashville, with his earliest possible return coming in a May 9 trip to New England Revolution. Given Philadelphia's lack of center-back depth, Nathan Harriel may move from a wide spot to the middle in Sery's absence, as the more natural alternative Geiner Martinez has barely played this season.
