Geronimo Rulli - Soccer News, Rumors, & Updates

Operating as second choice Rulli has yet to make a Premier League appearance this season, with his only playing time coming in a 90-minute Carabao Cup appearance.

Impact Rulli has settled into the expected backup role behind Gianluigi Donnarumma, who remains Manchester City's undisputed first-choice goalkeeper. The Argentine's only opportunity so far has come in the Carabao Cup, and domestic cup competition should continue to provide his clearest route to minutes. Despite arriving with extensive starting experience from Marseille, Rulli is unlikely to see significant Premier League action unless Donnarumma is rested or unavailable.

Signs with Manchester City Rulli signed a two year contract with Manchester City through the summer of 2028 after departing Marseille, the club announced.

Impact Rulli made 34 appearances with 5 clean sheets in his first season at Marseille before improving to 39 appearances and 9 clean sheets last season, establishing himself as the club's clear number one across two productive campaigns in Ligue 1. The 34-year-old goalkeeper has also won 8 caps for Argentina, part of the squad that won the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa America before finishing runner-up at this summer's World Cup. Rulli is expected to serve as backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal for City.

Another mistake costing points Rulli had two saves and allowed two goals in Saturday's 2-2 draw versus Paris FC. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 92nd minute.

Impact Rulli was largely untested as Marseille controlled the game before everything unraveled late, conceding two goals and seeing him make another costly error by bringing down Marshall Munetsi in the box, which led to Ilan Kebbal's stoppage time penalty. He gave up both goals in the closing stages after facing very little danger for most of the match. That late collapse turned what looked like a near-complete away performance into a damaging draw. Rulli has been committing too many mistakes in recent weeks, directly costing Marseille points after conceding 13 goals over the last six games across all competitions. The Argentinian will need to respond quickly, as he is now on the verge of being dropped to the bench for Jeffrey De Lange with the fans clearly running out of patience.

Concedes three in awful loss Rulli registered two saves and allowed three goals in Wednesday's 3-0 defeat to Club Brugge.

Impact Rulli was beaten twice inside the opening 11 minutes as Club Brugge struck quickly through Mamadou Diakhon and Romeo Vermant. Rulli made a terrible hand mistake on the first goal, setting the tone for the game and marking one of the numerous errors he made this season that cost games to Marseille. The third goal came late from close range, leaving Rulli with little chance once the shot was placed into the bottom corner. The terrible performance from the goalkeeper was his last this season for OM in the Champions League, as they finished 25th in the standings for 24 qualified teams.

Concedes late goal in victory Rulli registered one save and allowed one goal in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Lens.

Impact Rulli conceded once in the 85th minute when Rayan Fofana finished from close range, one of Lens' few shots on target. He was largely protected by Marseille's control of possession and tempo after the early two goal lead and could not do much about the goal. Rulli made only one save for his third consecutive game and conceded in each of them. He will look to secure a clean sheet in the decisive Champions League matchup against Club Brugge on Wednesday.

Concedes three goals in defeat Rulli made one save and allowed three goals, but also 2 an own goal in Wednesday's 3-0 loss to Liverpool.

Impact Rulli was credited with an own goal in the 72nd minute as Liverpool doubled their lead during a dangerous spell of pressure inside his box, following a well timed run from Jeremie Frimpong. He also faced a steady volume of attempts as Marseille were forced to open up after falling behind just before the break. The game's key moments went against him and his side, and the scoreline reflected Liverpool's clinical edge. Rulli will look to rebound quickly, as Marseille will host league leaders Lens in Ligue 1 at the Velodrome on Saturday.

One save in win Rulli made one save and allowed two goals in Saturday's 5-2 win over Angers.

Impact Rulli was rarely tested, with Angers managing only three shots on target, and he finished with one save in a comfortable Marseille win at Raymond Kopa. He was beaten twice, conceding to Amine Sbai just before halftime and Jim Allevinah in stoppage time, and he could not do much on either goal. Marseille's control of possession and shot volume kept his workload minimal for long stretches. The Argentine will look to build on that performance in the significant Champions League clash coming on Wednesday against Liverpool.

Seven saves in defeat Rulli made seven saves and allowed two goals in Sunday's 2-0 defeat against Nantes.

Impact Rulli kept Marseille alive for long stretches, finishing with seven saves as Nantes hit nine shots on target. He made early stops on Kelvin Amian's header in the 8th minute and a close range effort from Youssef El Arabi in the 22nd minute. He also made a stop on Matthis Abline's shot that led to the opener, as he pushed the ball toward Fabien Centonze. The first half from the keeper was extremely poor, as he could have conceded two more goals to the Canaries and was not at his usual level at all. After Marseille went down to nine men, he produced several key saves but could not do much on Remy Cabella's penalty kick. Rulli will hope to rebound against Angers on Jan. 17, as his recent outings could lead to a change in goal if he cannot get back on track, especially with Jeffrey De Lange having consistently performed well when called upon for Marseille.

Five saves in brillant outing Rulli recorded five saves and allowed zero goals in Sunday's 1-0 win against Monaco.

Impact Rulli recorded the shutout with five saves as Marseille edged Monaco 1-0 at the Velodrome. The Argentine was sharp in denying Takumi Minamino from close range after a ball over the top and remained calm through a late spell of pressure and set pieces. His positioning helped Marseille survive two tight offside decisions that went their way, as he contributed a season high four clearances. Rulli preserved the win late in the match with an outstanding save to deny Mika Biereth, likely the save of the season in Ligue 1, and proved to be the second most decisive player for Marseille behind Mason Greenwood.

Four saves in win Rulli made four saves and allowed two goals in Tuesday's 3-2 victory versus Union SG.

Impact Rulli was beaten early by Anan Khalaili's precise 5th minute strike from outside the box, but grew stronger as the match wore on. He stood up well in the second half, producing key saves from Sofiane Boufal and then twice from Promise David in stoppage time, including a close range header in the 93rd minute and an incredible save on the last action of the game, likely being a best save contender this season. Rulli will look to end the year in a fashion manner in an important clash against Monaco on Sunday.

DECEMBER 10, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Makes one save in defeat Rulli made one save and allowed one goal in Friday's 1-0 loss versus Lille.

Impact Rulli's night was defined by an early misread on Friday against Lille, as he rushed out toward a long ball from Nabil Bentaleb inside the opening 10 minutes and was caught in no man's land when Ethan Mbappe brought it down and rolled into an empty net. After that moment he had relatively little heavy work, making only one save with Lille generating just five shots and limited clear looks in open play. Even so, the error echoed a previous costly moment at Pierre Mauroy and overshadowed an otherwise controlled performance with the ball at his feet. Rulli will look to show a better figure fast since he was at fault in two games in a row in Ligue 1, which costed five points to OM. His next chance to perform will come against Monaco on Sunday, a big clash to end the year.

DECEMBER 7, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Concedes two in draw Rulli had two saves and allowed two goals in Saturday's 2-2 draw versus Toulouse.

Impact Rulli had almost no chance on Emersonn's thunderous opener in the 14th minute, beaten from close range after his defense failed to stop the run. He was also saved by the bar on a lobbed effort from Aron Donnum in the second half and quickly responded with a strong one-on-one stop against Emersonn as Toulouse nearly doubled their lead. Once Marseille turned the match, he spent long spells simply managing Toulouse counters. In stoppage time he was caught by Santiago Hidalgo's glancing header from a Mark McKenzie's long throw, as he did not analyze his position well and was beaten in an amateur way. Rulli will hope to bounce back against Lille on Friday at Pierre Mauroy.

Impressive outing again in UCL Rulli recorded seven saves and allowed one goal in Tuesday's 2-1 victory against Newcastle United.

Impact Rulli was beaten by Harvey Barnes' early finish from 10 yards but recovered to produce his second highest mark of the season with seven crucial saves, most of them coming from clear goal chances for Newcastle on Tuesday. He relied on Pierre Emile Hojbjerg's goal-line clearance from a Malick Thiaw header right after the first goal and later stood tall to deny Anthony Gordon one-on-one from Joe Willock's through ball. In the second half, he made a full-length save from a powerful Joe Willock strike while playing on with heavy bandaging after Dan Burn accidentally stepped on his head. That issue required two stitches but should not make him miss the start against Toulouse on Saturday. Rulli has now made 29 saves in five Champions League games this season, establishing himself as one of the most decisive players in OM.

NOVEMBER 26, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Keeps clean sheet in victory Rulli had two saves and allowed zero goals in Saturday's 3-0 victory against Brest.

Impact Rulli kept a shutout with Brest limited to few clear looks and long-range efforts. He claimed high balls cleanly and kept Marseille's buildup smooth while they led. He made only two saves against the Pirates and produced a first-half clearance to deny a one-on-one situation against Ludovic Ajorque. This marked his fourth clean sheet in 10 Ligue 1 appearances this season, and he will look to find a fifth one against Nice after the international break.

Impact Rulli made two saves and stopped one penalty kick in the first half before getting beaten by Lazar Samardzic from distance. His distribution remained clean but Marseille's attack failed to reward his stability. Rulli will hope to find a shutout on Saturday against Brest to relaunch the Phocean machine.

Clean sheet anchors win Rulli registered four saves and allowed zero goals in Saturday's 1-0 win against AJ Auxerre.

Impact Rulli produced a composed performance in Marseille's 1-0 victory away to Auxerre. He made four saves, including a crucial stop in the 83rd minute to deny Josue Casimir from close range. His positioning and command of the area kept Marseille stable after a late push from the hosts. Rulli will hope to build on that performance against Brest on Saturday. The goalkeeper has now secured three clean sheets in nine Ligue 1 appearances this season.
