On track with recovery Akinola (torn ACL) claims he's "not too far" from returning to the pitch, according to an interview with the Canadian Press on Feb 9.

Impact Akinola has been training with the team during the preseason but isn't expected to return until April or May at the earliest. Following the timeline from a torn ACL suffered in July of 2021, it would make sense to be conservative with a prognosis, even if he's actively traveling with the team.

Re-signs with Toronto Akinola has signed a three-year contract with Toronto FC with the option to extend for an additional year, the club announced Thursday.

Impact Akinola's previous contract option had been declined when Toronto's roster decisions were released a few weeks ago, but the 22-year-old has re-signed a new deal with the club through 2024 at least. He only scored three times in 11 MLS appearances last season before suffering an ACL injury during the Gold Cup in July, and he will want to come back fully fit and even stronger this year.
