'No one wants to face América' - Brian Rodríguez sends message ahead of the Liguilla as club look to reclaim dominance
Newcastle United, Allan Saint-Maximin and FFP - 'You can't hit it, if you don't trade' Saint-Maximin is close to leaving for the Saudi club Al-Ahli – but why, and how much will he be missed?
JULY 20, 2023 • THEATHLETIC.COM
Has injury-riddle campaign Saint-Maximin scored one goal, made five assists, had 28 shots and created 31 chances over 25 appearances (12 starts) this season.
Impact Saint-Maximin started his campaign with a pair of strong performances but then injured his hamstring and missed almost two months of action. The World Cup break was also another factor that prevented the attacker to get into rhythm and there was still another issue that left him off for almost the entire month of April. As a result, Saint-Maximin wasn't even close from being the player that became one of the fan favorites at Tyneside. Despite having his name usually being involved in transfer rumors, it looks like he intends to stay with the Magpies and compete for playing time next season.

Among substitutes on Sunday Saint-Maximin is fit and in the match day squad to face Arsenal on Sunday.
Impact Saint-Maximin returns from a hamstring injury in time to feature in the match day squad. The attacker starts from the bench but is available if called upon Sunday.

Back in training Saint-Maximin (hamstring) has returned to training and will be a late test for Sunday's match against Arsenal, according to manager Eddie Howe. "Allan has trained. He trained yeste...
Impact Saint-Maximin has been out a month with the injury, so even though he's training, he's unlikely to be in the starting XI Sunday. Given his injury history, he'll need time to get back his health and fitness with multiple options able to start on the left wing, including Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon if Joelinton has to play in a midfield role.
MAY 5, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Back in Tyneside Saint-Maximin (hamstring) has returned to Tyneside following recovery back home in France.
Impact Saint-Maximin has been out a month with the injury and if all goes well, there's a chance he could be ready Sunday against Arsenal. Of course, there still hasn't been a ton of updates on his recovery, so that'll be determined following Eddie Howe's pre-match press conference. Even then, with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson forming a partnership on the pitch, Saint-Maximin won't be pushed back in his return from injury.
MAY 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Continuing rehab work Saint-Maximin (hamstring) remains without a possible return date, according to manager Eddie Howe. "I certainly hope he'll be before the end of the season but with hamstring injuri...
Impact Saint-Maximin isn't back on the pitch yet, so it's expected to be another couple matches before he's an option again. He's been out the last four matches and Newcastle clearly have enough to replace him, as Alexander Isak has been used on the left wing late in matches, while Joelinton has been starting there at times, as well.
APRIL 28, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Unlikely for Sunday Saint-Maximin (hamstring) remains a doubt for Sunday's match against Tottenham, according to manager Eddie Howe. "We're not 100% sure on Maxi yet. There's not been a setback. It's...
Impact Saint-Maximin has been out since April 5 and considering he's not 100 percent following a hamstring injury, there's no reason to push him back. Given his injury history, it makes more sense to get him back in full training before a return to the squad. Until then, Howe will mix up who he starts on the left wing with Anthony Gordon starting there in the loss to Aston Villa.
APRIL 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Expected back soon Saint-Maximin (hamstring) is still away from the pitch and getting treatment in France, according to manager Eddie Howe. "I don't think it's a serious injury but he's away getting...
Impact Howe seems a bit more optimistic than the information he's relaying, as Saint-Maximin isn't even on the pitch, which means it sounds more like a hamstring pull than a tweak. If that's the case he could be out another couple weeks if he suffered the injury April 5. If that's the case, expect more starts for Joelinton on the left wing.
APRIL 14, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Ruled out Saturday Saint-Maximin has been ruled out of Saturday's matchup against Brentford due to a hamstring injury, Lee Ryder reports.
Impact The French winger has been diagnosed with a minor hamstring injury, so there's a chance he only misses a few days and not a few games. The upcoming days will be key to determining his availability for the game against Aston Villa on April 15.

Impact Saint-Maximin took a kick to his leg late last match, something that isn't new to him. He was likely going to be subbed off early no matter the situation, so this can be chalked up as a minor knock and all signs point to another start against Liverpool. It was the forward's second start in the club's last 10 contests, having been primary a reserve option since returning from a previous injury stint. If Saint-Maximin can't play against Liverpool on Saturday, Ryan Fraser could make his first start since Sept. 17 against Bournemouth.

Impact Saint-Maximin came off the bench in the Carabao Cup to play the final 33 minutes. The forward was moving well and seems to be fit heading into the second half of the Premier League. When he's on the pitch Saint-Maximin is an excellent fantasy option, the issue for fantasy managers is that he ends up the physio's table so regularly.
DECEMBER 21, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Available off bench Saint-Maximin (strain) is on the bench for Tuesday's Carabao Cup match against Bournemouth.
Impact Saint-Maximin picked up a minor muscular issue in a friendly, but is straight back on the bench at the first time of asking. The forward could see playing time off the bench if Newcastle really want to go for the game, or he could be rested. Either way it's a good sign that Saint-Maximin should be fully fit to kick off the second half of the Premier League against Leicester City on Boxing Day.

Impact Saint-Maximin isn't a stranger to the physio station and hasn't started in a league match since August due to various injuries. Even if he's out Tuesday, this seems to be a minor issue that shouldn't jeopardize his chances in the Dec. 26 trip to Leicester City. Joelinton and Joe Willock are two options to take Saint-Maximin's place in the lineup as needed.
