Dealing with upper-body injury Trenin is being evaluated for an upper-body injury after exiting Wednesday's Game 5 versus the Stars in the first period, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports.

Impact Trenin exited midway through the first period, and it appears unlikely he'll be able to return to the game. If the Avalanche lose Wednesday, the injury will end his season, though it's unclear if he'll be available for Friday's Game 6 should the Avalanche win.

Impact Trenin potted his first in an Avalanche jersey late in the second period, closing the gap to 4-2. With Colorado buzzing and having just hit the crossbar, Brandon Duhaime's shot caromed of Trenin and under the arm of Alex Nedeljkovic. That late tally spurred a frantic third period in which the Avs scored twice then went on to win in overtime. Impact Trenin was dropped from the third to fourth line, as Zach Parise returned from a lower-body injury. The fourth line was responsible for 12 of Colorado's 33 hits, and Trenin has 13 body checks over four games since being traded from Nashville. On third line for now Trenin had one shot on net, two blocks and two hits over 15:22 of ice time in Tuesday's 6-2 win over Calgary.

Impact Trenin played his second game for Colorado since being acquired from Nashville last week. He saw ice time as a winger on the third line, took some faceoff draws, and was used on the penalty-kill unit. The Avalanche need someone to replace Logan O'Connor (hip) on the third line, but it may not be Trenin long term. Once Zach Parise (lower body) is ready, he figures to skate there, and Trenin could drop to fourth-line center when injured bodies return. The Avs coaching staff appears to trust the 27-year-old and gave him 15 minutes of TOI in first game with the team last Friday. He recorded six hits in his first two games and can be the physical element the team lost when it traded Kurtis MacDermid.
