Auston Matthews - Two assists in 4 Nations loss Matthews (upper body) picked up two assists in a 3-2 overtime loss to Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game on Thursday.
Impact Coach Mike Sullivan shifted Matthews to a line with Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk, replacing Jack Eichel in the first period. The move paid quick dividends with Brady scoring on the second shift for the trio. Matthews finished the tournament with three assists and six shots in three games. The Leafs and fantasy managers should have some concern for the underlying injury that continues to flare up for Matthews. But his strong two-way play in this tournament demonstrated his superstar status. The Leafs play Saturday; it remains to be seen if Matthews or any of the 4 Nations players will be given an extra game's rest.

Mitch Marner - Two big assists in Canada's win Marner picked up two assists in Canada's 3-2 overtime win over the United States in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game on Thursday.
Impact Both helpers were beauties. On the first, Marner carried the puck into the U.S. zone and threaded a pass between Adam Fox and Brock Nelson to Sam Bennett, who went high over Connor Hellebuyck's shoulder from below the left face-off circle. The second was a sweet feed from the left hash marks to a wide-open Connor McDavid on the game winner in overtime. Marner finished the tournament with one goal, two assists and three shots. He struggled to elevate his game at times during the tournament, but he came up big Thursday night. Playing best-on-best should be a confidence booster for the playmaker as he returns to the Leafs' playoff run.

Impact Pacioretty sat out Wednesday's practice as coach Craig Berube said that (Pacioretty) tweaked something. Pacioretty has been a disappointment offensively this season with only five goals and eight assists over 37 appearances with the Maple Leafs.
