Nets lone goal in loss Cates scored a goal on two shots and added three hits in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Capitals.

Impact Cates went into the Olympic break on an 18-game goal drought, adding just four assists in that span. The 27-year-old may have benefited from the break, using it as a reset to get his campaign back on track. He's been fine in a middle-six role in 2025-26, earning 11 goals, 27 points, 90 shots on net, 67 hits, 38 blocked shots, 33 PIM and a plus-16 rating over 57 appearances, production largely in line with where he was at last year.

Impact Cates earned his first multi-point effort since Dec. 3. He's earned three goals and three assists over his last six outings. The 26-year-old forward is up to 22 points, 68 shots on net, 38 hits, 32 blocked shots and a plus-13 rating through 38 appearances. Cates has some fantasy appeal as a well-rounded depth forward, but his third-line role will continue to suppress his offense.

Impact Cates found the back of the net with a snap shot at the 11:13 mark of the second period, and that power-play goal gave the Flyers a transitory 2-0 lead. Cates is also riding a four-game point streak, his longest of the season, so he might be worth a look as a streaming option in some formats based on his recent streak of play. That said, his long-term upside will remain low as long as he remains in a bottom-six role.
