Released from PTO Knyzhov was released from his professional tryout agreement with the Penguins on Friday, per Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Impact Knyzhov had three goals, 14 points and 24 PIM in 40 contests with AHL San Jose in 2023-24. He also recorded an assist across 10 games with the Sharks. He might still land a two-way contract somewhere, but Knyzhov will almost certainly start 2024-25 in the minors.

Inks PTO Knyzhov will join the Penguins on a professional tryout, the team announced Thursday.

Impact Knyzhov was bought out of his contract by the Sharks in June with a year remaining on that deal. Over the course of the last two seasons, the 26-year-old blueliner saw action in just 22 NHL contests, registering one goal, one assist and 16 shots to go with 24 hits and 33 blocks. At this point, Knyzhov likely faces an uphill battle to secure a spot in the Penguins' lineup and figures to have to edge out the likes of Sebastian Aho, Ryan Shea and youngster Owen Pickering.

Placed on unconditional waivers The Sharks placed Knyzhov on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying out his contract Saturday, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports.

Impact Kynzhov has one year remaining on a two-year contract. The Sharks will save $933,333 this season and add $466,667 to their 2025-26 salary cap. Kynzhov managed only one assist in 10 regular-season appearances for the Sharks in 2023-24, as well as three goals and 14 points in 40 games with AHL San Jose.
