Nick Blankenburg - NHL News & Rumors

Placed on injured reserve Blankenburg (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve by the Maple Leafs on Friday, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.

Impact Blankenburg exited Thursday's matchup against the Rangers due to an undisclosed injury, and while the exact nature and severity haven't yet been revealed, he'll be forced to miss at least a week. Marshall Rifai (lower body) was also placed on injured reserve Friday, so Dakota Mermis and Cole McWard were called up to provide additional depth on the Maple Leafs' blue line.

Can't finish contest Blankenburg (undisclosed) didn't finish Thursday's game versus the Rangers, and no update on his status was offered, Luke Fox of Sportsnet reports.

Impact Injuries continue to mount on the Maple Leafs' blue line, as Blankenburg was already filling in for Marshall Rifai (lower body). Scores against former team Blankenburg scored a goal and added three hits in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Avalanche.

Impact Blankenburg made his season debut for the Maple Leafs and came back to haunt his former team. The defenseman saw 16:11 of ice time, including 54 seconds on the power play. Blankenburg may have a path to more usage after Chris Tanev (upper body) left Saturday's contest, in which Toronto had seven defensemen in the lineup. Steady power-play time will be hard to come by for Blankenburg, but he could compete for bottom-four minutes moving forward.

Through 58 outings between Colorado and Nashville this season, Blankenburg has seven goals, 23 points, 63 shots on net, 59 blocked shots, 52 hits and a minus-10 rating.
