Facing extended absence Heiskanen underwent successful knee surgery in New York on Tuesday and is being labeled month-to-month, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.

Impact Heiskanen's injury is a brutal loss for a Dallas club that has its eyes on contending for the Stanley Cup this season. Heiskanen was injured Jan. 28 against the Golden Knights after a collision with Mark Stone and placed on injured reserve Friday. Given his timeline, it's unclear whether Heiskanen will be back in time before the conclusion over the regular season. While he's unavailable, Brendan Smith should receive more opportunities, while Thomas Harley will quarterback the No. 1 power-play unit.

Impact Heiskanen will meet with doctors Friday to have his MRI examined. Impact Heiskanen has picked up four points over 10 outings in January, with three of them coming on the power play. The 25-year-old defenseman is up to 21 points (seven on the power play), 104 shots on net, 78 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over 46 appearances. Heiskanen's large role will help him maintain fantasy value, but his lack of consistency on offense has kept him from being among the truly elite blueliners this season.

The 25-year-old has a total of five goals, 14 assists, 88 shots on net, 69 blocked shots and a plus-10 rating over 40 appearances. Considering Heiskanen has topped 50 points in consecutive seasons, it's not a great sign that he's tracking toward the 40-point mark for this campaign.
