Headed back to KHL McLeod (suspension) agreed to terms on a three-year contract with KHL club Avangard Omsk, per The Athletic on Thursday.

Impact McLeod was reportedly working on a deal with the Hurricanes, yet nothing ever came to fruition. Technically, the 27-year-old center's deal could have an NHL release clause, but the fact that he agreed to a three-year contract likely means he won't be back in the NHL when his suspension is up in December.

NHL eligibility determined McLeod, who was acquitted of sexual assault charges in the Hockey Canada trial, will be eligible to resume playing Dec. 1, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports Thursday.

Impact McLeod will have to convince a team to sign him to a contract after playing in the KHL last season for Nur-Sultan Barys and Omsk Avangard. Per Johnston, contracts can be registered with the NHL on Oct. 15, and the five players can begin conditioning with a team Nov. 15 and appear in a game Dec. 1. It's possible McLeod will have to settle for a two-way deal if he wants to restart his NHL career.

Impact McLeod was not given a qualifying offer from the Devils after being charged in connection with an alleged incident that occurred during a 2018 Hockey Canada event. McLeod will follow in the footsteps of another player facing charges stemming from that event, Dillon Dube, in heading to the KHL while awaiting trial.
